Boland better prepared for anticipated Bazball blitz in Australia

The pace bowler is still mapping out what his early season looks like to ensure he is ready to face England should he be needed

Alex Malcolm13-Aug-2025Scott Boland believes he’s better prepared for what England’s batters will throw at him this summer if he gets the chance to play in the Ashes after he was attacked relentlessly in his two Tests during the 2023 series in the UK.Boland has the lowest Test bowling average of anyone with more than 50 wickets in the last century after a hat-trick in Jamaica reduced his figure to 16.53, leaving him sixth on the all-time list. While he took 18 wickets at 9.55 in his debut Ashes series against a pre-Bazball England team in 2021-22, he took just two wickets at 115.50 in the 2023 Ashes where he played just the two Tests at Edgbaston and Headingley.Related

Speaking at an event in Melbourne on Wednesday that marked 100 days to go before the first Ashes Test in Perth, Boland said he is unsure how many Tests he will play this summer given he still remains behind Australia’s big three – Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood – in the pecking order when all are fit. But he believes he’s ready to handle whatever approach England take to him if he gets the chance.”I’ve obviously thought about it a lot since it happened in 2023,” Boland said. “But I still think there were times in England where I bowled pretty well and just didn’t get a wicket. I’m a better bowler than I was back then. I’m going to be in our conditions that I know really, really well. I’m hoping to put in some good performances.”Boland expects the conditions to be vastly different to England if the pitches in Australia play as they have done over the last four summers, which he believes will help Australia’s bowlers against the Bazball brand.”They’re going to play aggressively,” Boland said. “If the wickets stay similar to what they’ve been over the last few years, I think we’re going to be in the game all the time.”There were little parts of the England tour last time, when the ball sort of moved around and favoured the bowlers, but generally over there, the wickets have been a bit flatter. And then when you come to Australia, certainly the last three or four years, they’ve been bowler friendly.”Boland, like many Australians, watched parts of the recent England-India Test series with great interest. But the difference in conditions is highlighted by the fact that England and India combined for a record 21 centuries in the five-match series. In 15 Tests in Australia since the last Ashes series down under, batters have made a combined total of 19, with the same India side scoring just three across the five Tests last summer and only one in the last four. Australia’s batters, who have been under the microscope for their recent output have scored 15 of those. England scored just one in the 2021-22 Ashes, which was made by Jonny Bairstow in Sydney, but only four batters in Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root and Ben Stokes are likely to return.Record crowds are expected for the Ashes•Getty ImagesDespite the likelihood of seam bowler-friendly pitches this summer, Boland is not anticipating that he will play in a four-pronged pace attack at any stage despite being picked ahead of Nathan Lyon in extreme conditions with a pink Dukes ball at Sabina Park in Jamaica last month.”I hope so, but probably not in Australia,” Boland said. “Nathan’s one of the best spin bowlers in the world, so I think he can bowl in any conditions. He’s probably been the glue to our bowling line-up over the last few years. And then I probably see Greeny [Cameron Green] coming back and bowling a lot more, he obviously hasn’t bowled for 12 months, so that probably hurts the chances of four quicks as well.”Boland has not bowled since the Jamaica Test and instead has been working diligently in the gym to avoid carrying any of the knee soreness he battled last summer into the Ashes. Boland said a discussion with Australia coach Andrew McDonald had led to a shift in his gym regime which he believes is paying dividends.Boland is unsure how many of the first four Sheffield Shield games he will play ahead of the first Test despite not being a guaranteed started in Perth with discussions ongoing between Cricket Australia’s high performance team and Cricket Victoria about his playing schedule.”It’s changed a couple of times, but I’m sure over the next few weeks we’ll nut it all out,” Boland said. “There’s so much time between game one and game four, I’m hoping to play two or three.”Despite an incredible record, Scott Boland is never certain when he will play next•AFP/Getty ImagesThe second round of the Shield sees a potential match-up between Boland and incumbent Test opener Sam Konstas as Victoria host New South Wales at Junction Oval on October 15, with Konstas fighting an uphill battle to retain his Test spot for the Ashes. Boland knocked over Konstas three times out of four meetings in Shield cricket last summer.CA has been careful in managing the loads of Boland and other back-up bowlers throughout the summer to keep them fresh in case they are required. But there is a danger of them not playing enough. In 2023-24, Boland was Australia’s back-up quick for seven straight Tests but did not play a single game while last year he played three of the five Tests against India when Hazlewood got injured, just as he did in the 2021-22 Ashes. The lengthy gaps between the first, second and third Tests, and bowler-friendly pitches may create a possibility where Australia’s big three can play all three without significant workload issues. But there are only four-day breaks between Adelaide and Melbourne then Melbourne into Sydney which is when Boland will likely be required. Getting him enough cricket to that point will be a challenge if he is carried as the spare bowler in the squad and required to stay with the team in the case of concussion. There are CA XI and Australia A matches against England Lions in Perth and Brisbane that run alongside the Test matches where there may be opportunities for him to get match overs in while remaining in the same city as the Test squad. But Victoria’s last Shield match before the BBL break is at the MCG from December 4-7 while the Brisbane Test is being played. There is no Shield cricket after that as the BBL begins on December 14.”There’s such good breaks in between the first two Tests that gives whoever plays, gives gives them opportunity to really reset, freshen up,” Boland said. “But I think going from last year, we had a three-day break in between, we bowled the last session here in Melbourne to the bowling in the first session in Sydney, it’s hard work, and probably does take you a session or two to sort of get everything moving again.”

Wolves' "phenomenal" star looks like another Cunha-type player for Pereira

It’s been a tough start to the season for Wolverhampton Wanderers this year.

Vítor Pereira’s men were able to pick up two points against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion before the international break, but those are the only points they’ve picked up all season.

Unsurprisingly, then, the Old Gold find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and in desperate need of some of the magic Matheus Cunha was able to muster up at points last year.

Wolves players engage in a minute's applause.

Fortunately, while the Brazilian ace is long gone, there is another international in the side who has the ability to become another Cunha-type player for the manager.

Comparing Wolves' best Premier League forwards

Even though the club have faced their fair share of relegation battles in the Premier League, Wolves have also had more than their fair share of unreal attackers play for them.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

For example, while he probably isn’t in the top three, former striker Kevin Doyle certainly deserves an honourable mention here, as in 93 top-flight appearances for the club, he scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists.

With that said, someone who is more than an honourable mention is the late great Diogo Jota.

The Porto-born star joined the club initially on loan from Atlético Madrid in 2017 and then on a permanent deal a year later, and in 131 appearances racked up an incredible tally of 44 goals and 19 assists, in what was the club’s most successful period for a long time.

Likewise, while his goalscoring form did fade towards the end of his time at the club, when Raul Jimenez was in his prime, there were few strikers in the league more dangerous than him.

For example, in the 19/20 campaign, the Mexican international racked up an astonishing tally of 27 goals and ten assists in 55 games.

When he finally left the club, he did so with a record of 57 goals and 23 assists in 166 games.

Finally, while his departure might have left a sour taste in the mouths of some, and he certainly didn’t have the longevity of other players at the club, it’s impossible to deny that, at his best, Cunha was a force of nature at Molineux.

Last season saw him pull off some miraculous bits of skill and amass a relegation-avoiding haul of 23 goal involvements in 36 games.

He is someone Pereira could really do with this season, although there is another player in the squad who could end up being the next best thing.

Wolves next Cunha-type player

While the results have been far from ideal, there is still a good deal of talent in this Wolves squad, although, when it comes to someone who could be the new ‘Cunha-type’ player, only one name comes to mind: Jørgen Strand Larsen.

Now, it should be said that, as things stand, the Norwegian international is not at the level the Brazilian was last season.

Moreover, there are some key differences between their games and how they approach matches.

However, that doesn’t mean the former Celta de Vigo ace cannot replicate elements of the former Old Gold star for Pereira – notably his ability to dig the team out of trouble with some individual brilliance.

The primary argument for why he could end up doing this is simply the fact that he’s now got a track record of being a reliable goalscorer in the top five leagues.

For example, in his final season in Spain, the Halden-born dynamo racked up a brilliant tally of 13 goals and three assists in 37 La Liga appearances, totalling 2888 minutes.

That comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 2.31 games, or every 180.5 minutes, which isn’t too shabby at all.

Yet, despite last season being his first year in what many would consider to be an even tougher league, the free-scoring forward did even better, putting the ball in the back of the net 14 times and providing four assists in 35 appearances, totalling 2603 minutes.

In other words, the “phenomenal” centre-forward, as dubbed by Pereira, averaged a goal involvement every 1.94 games, or every 144.61 minutes in the Premier League last year.

Therefore, while he might not have all the tricks and silky skills of a Cunha, it feels like, so long as he remains fit, Strand Larsen could play a similar role for Wolves and his manager this season.

Green set to bowl in Shield cricket, will 'wait and see' if he's at No. 3 in the Ashes

Cameron Green says he could play Shield cricket instead of ODIs and T20Is in the lead-up to the Ashes to build his bowling loads on return from his back injury

Australia allrounder Cameron Green is unsure if he will bat at No. 3 in the upcoming Ashes series, but confirmed his return to bowling is likely to come in Sheffield Shield cricket in the lead-in rather than at the ODI or T20I series against India that comes before into the Test summer.Green, 26, has been Australia’s No. 3 in each of their last four Test matches across the World Test Championship final and the three-Test tour of the Caribbean, which he played as a batter-only as he continues his rehabilitation from back surgery in October last year.He looked increasingly assured in the No. 3 role after a very difficult start, making scores of 4, 0, 3, 15, 26, 52, 46 and 42. While the overall returns appear lean, the last four innings were highly valued within the Australia camp, especially the 46 and 42 in Kingston, which were the second- and third-highest scores in a game where there were only four individual scores higher than 24.Related

But speaking in Mackay on Thursday ahead of the second ODI against South Africa, Green said he was unsure if he would continue at No. 3 for the first Ashes Test in Perth in November as the make-up of Australia’s top three remained uncertain.”You never know,” Green said. “I think there’s certainly a lot of guys that can fill that role. I’m really proud that I was able to do a role up there. But, yeah, wait and see.”If he does not bat No. 3 in the Ashes, it would completely change the dynamic of Australia’s top six. With Steven Smith and Travis Head locked in at four and five, allrounder Beau Webster has noted that his spot at No. 6 would come under pressure when Green’s is back to bowling. Usman Khawaja appears certain to open in the Ashes but Sam Konstas knows his place is far from guaranteed with Tasmania opener Jake Weatherald “in the mix” according to chairman of selectors George Bailey, while all eyes are on Marnus Labuschagne to see if he can regain to some form ahead of the Ashes. The scrutiny on Konstas has come following a torrid tour of the Caribbean, but Green said there wasn’t a lot to glean from the West Indies series given the nature of the pitches.”It was such tough wickets, especially for the batters, so to try and get out the series unscathed I think was a good effort,” Green said. “There wasn’t much to take away from that. I think it was just trying to survive, really, and find a way to score some runs. Yeah, I don’t think we’ll be playing on many wickets quite like that.”Green is set to be available to bowl in the Ashes. He has slowly been building his bowling loads back up at training since June after having not been allowed to bowl following his back surgery. He has not been available to bowl in either of the T20I series against West Indies or South Africa, and is also playing as a batter-only in the current three-match ODI series.Australia’s next international assignment after the third ODI on Sunday is not until October 1 when they will play a three-match T20I series in four days in New Zealand. Thereafter, Australia play three ODIs against India at home from October 19 to 25 before starting a five-match T20I series against India that runs from October 29 to November 8 with the Ashes starts on November 21.Green said it was more likely that he would focus on red-ball cricket in the lead-up to the Ashes series with Western Australia set to play three Sheffield Shield matches starting on October 4 against New South Wales at the WACA Ground, October 15 against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval, and October 28 against South Australia.Cameron Green has not bowled since injuring his back on the ODI tour of England in 2024•Getty Images

“In the past, it’s worked really well when I focused on Shield cricket,” Green said. “So I think that potentially might be the way to go down, especially with working my way back with bowling. Potentially get a few more overs over a few more days might be the best way to go about it.”I’m not quite certain on what match [I’ll return to bowling], but I’m feeling really good, in a really good spot. It’s exciting being back bowling at a reasonable intensity.”It’s been a long road back.”WA host Queensland in a fourth Shield game on November 11 but it is unlikely Green would play that close to the start of the Ashes. Green had success in 2024 when he was held out of a T20I series in New Zealand ahead of the Test series in order to remain in Australia to play Shield cricket. He scored a century for WA against Tasmania in a game that coincided with Australia’s three T20Is in New Zealand before making his highest Test score of 174 not out in the first Test in Wellington.Meantime, Green and Australia’s batting are searching for some runs ahead of the second ODI in Mackay on Friday. Green was one of five Australia batters spun out by Keshav Maharaj in game one in Cairns. But Green said the team had not dwelt on the dismal batting display.”Obviously Maharaj bowled beautifully, a couple of their batters batted really well,” Green said. “We didn’t want to debrief it too much. I think we know we’re a good team. We’ve had a lot of success the last few months. So to deep dive into it is probably not the right way to go about it. There’s certainly things we need to improve on. I think we just had a reasonable off day, but there’s plenty of one-day cricket coming up, so hopefully we can turn that around.”

Luis Suarez reveals plans for Barcelona return as he reveals he has 'confirmed' plan with his family

Uruguay's talismanic forward, Luis Suarez, has revealed his plans of making a possible return to his former club, Barcelona, in the near future. The 38-year-old is yet to bid farewell to the sport and could end his career in Catalunya, as he admits he still has connections at the club which he represented from 2014 to 2020 before switching base to metropolitan side Atletico Madrid.

Suarez currently playing with his former Barca teammate

During his tenure at Barca, which spanned six seasons, Suarez shared the dressing room with numerous top players like Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and of course, the Argentine sensation Lionel Messi. After leaving Barcelona, he found himself representing Atletico Madrid, Internacional and Gremio, before shifting base to the USA for the start of a new chapter. There, in Miami, he was signed by David Beckham's co-owned outfit Inter Miami, and shared the pitch with former Barca teammates, out of which only Messi has continued to feature in the sport. Suarez has been an influential figure alongside Messi not only in the Major League Soccer, but also in the Leagues Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, securing 14 goals and 15 assists across 40 appearances. With the MLS season approaching the business end, and Inter Miami confirming their spot in the conference semi-finals, Suarez might be seeking a new adventure at the end of the campaign before he calls it a day.

In an interaction with Sport, Suarez stated: "Yes, I am always keeping up with Barcelona –  the children too, because you don’t stop being a fan. You don’t stop having admiration for the club, you have affection for the club and you still have contact with people from the club. We still have a house there. Our planned idea is to return to Barcelona for everything that results for us. We have confirmed it because of everything it gave us and because we always feel at home there."

Suarez, during his tenure at Barcelona, scored 195 goals and registered 113 assists across 283 games. Moreover, throughout his entire career, he has played 857 matches and recorded 515 goals and 278 assists, an immense figure that makes him a revolutionary football icon not only in Uruguay but across the planet. He has also retired from international football after scoring 69 goals in 143 matches for Uruguay.

Suarez speaks about his relationship with Lionel Messi

While Suarez and Messi, along with Neymar, have rocked the pitch on numerous occasions, winning major matches and accolades, the Uruguayan also shares a special off-the-pitch bond with the 2022 World Cup winner.

He said: "As the years went by, we got to know each other on the pitch. And over the years we also know each other a lot abroad. We each know when one is in a good mood, when the other is in a bad mood. Everyone knows when internal conversations are shared or when one does not feel like talking. We know each other well, and the truth is that children also spend many hours a day here in football. The truth is that it is a beautiful stage that we are living, enjoying… We look at each other sometimes and we start to think that we are fulfilling what we had talked about at that time at Barcelona. To be able to enjoy our last stage as football players together."

The 38-year-old also expressed his views on how Messi has been helping in the transformation of Inter Miami. “On the pitch he is something unique, something unrepeatable and he continues to do incredible things. He still has that obsession of wanting to continue winning like we all have. But of course, you see him, that spirit he has. There are times when the team wins but he wanted one of his teammates to score and if he didn’t score, Leo gets angry because that player didn’t score. If he sets the objectives, he achieves them and that rubs off on all of us," he highlighted.

Mets Fan Who Was Recording as Pete Alonso Homered Amazingly Ended Up With the Ball

Pete Alonso played the hero on Thursday night as the New York Mets won Game 3 of their Wild Card series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Alonso's three-run shot was literally historic and caused Mets fans to feel something they haven't felt in October in years—joy.

One particular Mets fan was seated just beyond the fence in right field when Alonso hit his slump-busting shot. Not only was he recording when Alonso went yard, but he also apparelty managed to pick up the ball.

We can't be sure, but there is one fan in the picture of Sal Frelick watching the ball clear the wall who is holding a phone and wearing what appears to be a Mr. Met shirt.

Marcus Rashford told he can steal Lamine Yamal's crown as Barcelona's best player as Man Utd loanee backed to 'make his own legacy'

Marcus Rashford has been told that he can steal Lamine Yamal’s crown as Barcelona’s best player, with the England international proving during a loan spell in Catalunya that he remains a “fantastic player”. Dwight Yorke expects the Manchester United outcast to create his own “legacy” with La Liga giants, much like Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Xavi once did.

  • Lost spark: Why Rashford finds himself at Barcelona

Rashford is a long way from occupying that talent pool at present, but has enjoyed a productive start to his spell with Barcelona. He showed signs of rekindling a lost spark during a loan stint at Aston Villa last season.

With no slate being wiped clean at Old Trafford in the summer of 2025, the 28-year-old was forced to find another new challenge. He stepped out of his comfort zone when doing that, with the decision taken to join Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri in Spanish football.

Just like Messi: Rashford tipped to eclipse Yamal & emulate icons

Rashford has registered six goals and eight assists through 16 appearances for Barca, with the expectation being that a purchase option will be triggered in his loan agreement. Once a permanent transfer is completed, Yorke believes that Rashford will go from strength to strength.

The 1999 Treble winner has told of the United academy graduate potentially rising above teenage wonderkid Yamal at Camp Nou: “I'm surprised they haven't already paid that £35 million ($46m), as he’s a really good player.

“I think it’s great for Rashford. I’ve defended him. There’s a whole saga around him and after some people questioned his role at United, credit to him for doing well at Barcelona. I think he became very unhappy at United, it’s as simple as that. It doesn’t matter who you are. If you’re in an unhappy place, how can you perform? He’s gone over to Barcelona, he’s enjoying his football again, he’s in a happy place, and we see the impact on his performances.

“He’s not become a fantastic player at Barcelona. He is a fantastic player. He has always been a fantastic player. But if you’re unhappy, you’re not going to perform. I don’t think he has covered himself in glory either, but man for man there was no player more talented than Rashford in the United ranks. Now we’ve got a happy Rashford playing the way he can, he’s showing at Barcelona that the rest is history, and now he has some big boots to fill.

“Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Xavi and Andres Iniesta, these are the types of guys that came before him like Romario and those types of players. I don’t think Rashford is quite in that bracket yet but he can create his own legacy in the Barcelona shirt.

“Apart from Lamine Yamal, he’s not going to have much competition in this team. He's now got a chance to believe: 'I can be the number one player here', even ahead of Yamal. Yamal is still in that development stage. Rashford is at his peak right now as a player and he is that good. He can be that good but he must want to have it."

  • Transfer poser: Man Utd already made a mistake with McTominay

United could be wondering whether selling Rashford is the best option, having seen him thrive outside of Manchester. The likes of Antony and Alejandro Garnacho have done likewise, while Scott McTominay is now a Serie A title winner at Napoli.

There has been talk of the Red Devils trying to bring the Scotland international back, with Yorke saying on that topic: “You know they would have to pay some serious money to go and get him back. It would be difficult to admit they made a mistake, but having said that, he would relish the fact he’s now being backed by the club if they did go back in for him.

“He wouldn’t answer the problem of not having a number six though. They’d probably get him playing even further up the park which would only make things more confusing. That’s why he wouldn’t come back. In hindsight, like with all these things, he could have been in a top position at United one day but it’s never that easy.”

New update on Wolves appointing Erik ten Hag and when contact was made

Wolves have now been heavily linked with making former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag their next boss, following the recent sacking of Vitor Pereira.

Wanderers are on the lookout for their next manager, with Pereira relieved of his duties after last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat away to Fulham in the Premier League proving to be the final straw.

A host of names have been mentioned, including former Wolves striker Robbie Keane and Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards, and the latter hasn’t exactly ruled out the idea of taking charge at Molineux.

“I can understand it with my links to the club but my full focus is on this job here, which is a brilliant job, and trying to turn things around for a really big game against Leicester. It’s hard for me to comment on speculation and anything other than Middlesbrough. We’ve done a decent job so far, and all I care about is trying to win tomorrow.”

Now, Ten Hag’s name has also been thrown into the hat, with a new update suggesting that he is among the front-runners to be Pereira’s successor at Wolves.

Wolves make contact with Ten Hag's agent

According to Algemeen Daglblad [via Sport Witness], Wolves made contact with Ten Hag’s agent on Monday over potentially taking charge of the Premier League club.

It is claimed that the Dutchman is “seeking revenge”, seemingly in terms of rebuilding his reputation, following doomed spells at both United and Bayer Leverkusen but he has several other options at unnamed clubs.

Ten Hag is certainly a manager whose stock has fallen significantly since he guided Ajax into the semi-finals of the Champions League back in 2019, due to struggling in his last two jobs.

For that reason, there is a risk in Wolves appointing him, with some supporters understandably worried that he is on the wane as a manager, rather than on the way up like Edwards.

Then again, the 4-3-2-1-playing and Eredivisie-winning former Ajax boss is a talented manager, with Steve McClaren even likening him to Sir Alex Ferguson, in terms of his attention to detail.

“The only other one I would have seen do that? That would have been the gaffer [Ferguson]. His great strength lies not just in his attention to detail and organisation. He has a clear philosophy of how he wants to play football; the environment he wants to create. The player progression programme was a key part of Twente. He has done that at Ajax too, for each player from the academy to the first team.”

Rahane steps down as Mumbai's Ranji Trophy captain

Ajinkya Rahane has given up the captaincy of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season, saying he believes “it’s the right time to groom a new leader”. In a communication to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Rahane, now 37, said he wants to continue as a player for the team.”Captaining and winning championships with the Mumbai team has been an absolute honour,” Rahane wrote in a social media post. “With a new domestic season ahead, I believe it’s the right time to groom a new leader. And hence I’ve decided not to continue in the captaincy role. I remain fully committed to giving my best as a player and will continue my journey with MCA to help us win more trophies. Looking forward to the season.”Rahane helped Mumbai break a nine-year drought by leading them to their 42nd Ranji Trophy title in 2023-24. While his red-ball form over the past two years has been patchy (467 runs in 27 innings with just one century), he was more fluent in the shorter formats. At the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in December last year, when he played under Shreyas Iyer, Rahane was the Player of the Tournament for his chart-topping 469 runs in a title-winning season.Related

Rahane was most recently in charge of Kolkata Knight Riders at IPL 2025, for whom he was the highest scorer with 390 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 147.27. The team had a mediocre season, though, finishing eighth with just five wins.In July, Rahane said he still possessed the “hunger and passion” for the game and for red-ball cricket, stating he even carried his trainers and cricket gear while on holiday in London to begin preparations for the upcoming domestic season.”I still want to play Test cricket,” Rahane had told Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton in an interview with . “I’m really passionate about playing Test cricket. I’m enjoying my cricket at the moment. For me, it’s all about focusing on the controllable things. Frankly, I tried to have conversations with the selectors, but [there are] things as a player I cannot control. I got no response.”As a player, all I can do is keep playing cricket, keep enjoying the game, and give my best each and every time. I love playing Test cricket, love playing red-ball [cricket], it’s a passion. The love for the game keeps me going.”Mumbai are currently preparing for the upcoming season by playing the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Chennai, with a young squad led by 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre. Mumbai allrounder Shardul Thakur, a key member of their 2024-25 Ranji campaign, was named captain of West Zone for the season-opening Duleep Trophy.
