    THE EXPLANATION

According to BBC Sport, Vardy will end his Leicester career at the King Power Stadium rather than in the final game of the season at Bournemouth. The club has announced the veteran's 500th appearance for the Foxes will be his last, giving him what he hopes will be a perfect send-off this weekend.

  • WHAT VARDY SAID

Vardy has been urged to join Championship newboys Wrexham, amid links with Major League Soccer. But the former England international still believes he can deliver in the Premier League and wants to play on for a while yet.

Asked if he had doubts about being able to perform at the highest level, he told Sky Sports: "No, but that's just me. Football is a crazy world. You never know what's going to happen. I'll keep going until my legs tell me I need to stop. My legs are fine. I'm doing a sport that I love, it's what I've done since I was a little kid so long may that continue."

Newcastle "showing an interest" in "phenomenal" 19 y/o Premier League ace

Newcastle United are interested in completing the signing of a “phenomenal” Premier League player in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Latest Newcastle news

The Magpies are still on cloud nine after reaching the final of the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening, following their 2-0 win at home to Arsenal. It sealed a 4-0 aggregate triumph across the two legs, setting up a highly-anticipated final clash with Liverpool at Wembley next month.

It is also vital that Newcastle keep up their previous good form in the Premier League – they have lost their last two home games, against Bournemouth and Fulham – ensuring they get back into the Champions League ahead of next season.

Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon celebrates scoring their second goal with KieranTrippier

In terms of potential new signings moving forward, Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has been mentioned as a target for the Magpies, having scored 10 goals in 22 Premier League starts this season. He hopefully wouldn’t be seen as a possible replacement for Alexander Isak, though.

Meanwhile, another Palace player, Marc Guehi, is also being talked about as a summer target, having been constantly linked with a move to St James’ Park in recent transfer windows. An exit from Selhurst Park looks likely at the end of the season, as he looks to kick on to the next level in his career.

Newcastle eyeing move for "phenomenal" ace

Speaking on his YouTube channel [via The Boot Room], Romano said Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen is a target for Newcastle this summer: “What we can add is that also Newcastle are showing an interest in Huijsen.

“They are doing very well, and in case they will be in Champions League football next season, the investment on a centre-back back could be made, and Huijsen is one of the players they are monitoring.

“Remember the exclusive story from mid-January, he has a release clause in his contract valid in the summer. So Huijsen will be for sure one to watch in the summer transfer window.”

Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen

Huijsen is enjoying an exceptional season for an impressive Bournemouth side, excelling alongside Illia Zabarnyi at the heart of the defence, so he could be a great signing for Newcastle.

At just 19 years of age, the Spain Under-21 international is already performing consistently at a high level, so he could be viewed as the future of the Magpies’ defence alongside Sven Botman. He has plenty of admirers, not least football talent scout Jacek Kulig, who has called him “phenomenal”.

Huijsen looks like one of the best young centre-backs in Europe in current form, so Newcastle going all in for him this summer is a no-brainer.

Gujarat Titans looking for a fast bowler at auction, says head coach Nehra

Defending IPL champions Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra has said that the side will look to rope in a fast bowler at the auction, to be held in Kochi on December 23.”Even if you win, still you make a few changes as per needs,” Nehra told reporters on Friday. “We might need a fast bowler. In a small auction, you make changes as per requirements. We are no different.”We don’t have too many requirements as we haven’t released that many players. Domestic spots are also two or three left. It’s not that you will [always] get the player you want. There are nine more teams. So when that player comes into auction, that is also important.”Under Nehra’s guidance and Hardik Pandya’s leadership, Titans won the IPL in their maiden season earlier this year.”Every year you want to win as a team,” Nehra said. “Nobody is here to participate but to win. There will be one winner but margin between win and loss is very little.”Titans traded Afghanistan’s keeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz and New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson to Kolkata Knight Riders last month.”Gurbaz is a good player and he has gone to a different franchise,” Nehra said. “There are lot of players who are international T20 captains, but don’t get picked in IPL.”

Emery must axe Aston Villa’s "top young player" to unleash Rashford

Aston Villa had a fantastic transfer window which saw Unai Emery sign Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio, Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia and Axel Disasi.

Jhon Duran and Jaden Philogene were notable departures, but the Villa supporters certainly appear happy with the business conducted during the winter window.

Jhon Duran

The arrival of Rashford was arguably the most hyped move, and if he can return to his best form, the Englishman may just be one of the finest signings of the transfer window.

Marcus Rashford could start against Tottenham Hotspur

Villa face Spurs in the FA Cup this weekend, and there isn’t a better time to take on the north Londoners. Despite holding a 1-0 advantage from their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten 4-0 in the second leg, meaning they failed to reach the final.

Villa lost against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, but Emery will be able to call upon the likes of Rashford and Asensio for the cup clash.

Manchester United's MarcusRashfordwarms up as a substitute during the match

The Englishman has scored seven times for Manchester United this season, but only three of those came under Ruben Amorim as he was soon exiled from the squad.

Despite starting just 12 times in the Premier League, the winger has still created four big chances while averaging one key pass per game.

He will be keen to make a solid first impression at Villa, and given how poor Spurs are defensively, Rashford could enjoy a productive debut should he get the nod.

The question is, who will be dropped from the starting XI if Emery unleashes the 60-cap star?

Emery could drop Jacob Ramsey for Aston Villa

Against Wolves last week, Jacob Ramsey started the game on the left flank, but failed to contribute effectively in the final third throughout the tie.

Indeed, he lasted only 45 minutes as Villa went down 2-0 against the relegation battlers. In that time, he completed eight passes, managed to take just 20 touches and lost possession seven times.

It was the perfect chance for Ramsey to stake his claim as a regular in the side, but now with the signings of Asensio and Rashford, he could very well find himself on the bench for the FA Cup match.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke praised Ramsey a couple of years ago when speaking to Football FanCast, saying: “Villa are lucky they’ve got such a top young player on their hands and they won’t want to even consider selling him.”

A lot can change in just two years. This season, the 23-year-old has started just 14 games under Emery in all competitions, scoring twice in the process.

A chance of progress in the FA Cup should be something the manager is taking seriously. With this in mind, dropping Ramsey to the bench in order to unleash Rashford on the left wing must be the thought that is running through his mind.

PRIMEIRO GOL FICA MADURO

ARBITRAGEM COMEÇOU A ZICAR O BAILE

Fellows 2.0: West Brom could fix Wallace blow by unleashing "bright" teen

West Bromwich Albion supporters will head to Leeds United this coming weekend hopeful that their side can disrupt the flow of the table-topping Whites.

It will be easier said than done, however, with Daniel Farke’s men now ridiculously unbeaten in Championship action across a mammoth 16-game stretch, whilst Tony Mowbray’s Baggies continue to blow hot and cold with only two victories picked up themselves from their last five league outings.

To further add to the West Brom unease, the experienced figure of Jed Wallace is now sidelined through injury, but the playoff-chasers did manage fine without him in their last 2-0 win over Oxford United.

West Brom dealing with Wallace's injury

Indeed, although Wallace had found his minutes limited under the previous regime, he had picked up a goal and an assist under Mowbray in league action before this injury setback occurred.

Still, his absence wasn’t really felt in the 2-0 victory over the U’s, as other experienced heads such as Alex Mowatt took control by bagging the opener, before the equally seasoned John Swift made sure of the three points at the death.

Moreover, Tammer Bany exploded into life in a Baggies strip from off the bench, with the former Randers FC man a revelation late on down the left channel when teeing up Swift for his game-clinching strike.

But, it’s down the right – where Wallace primarily plays – where the promotion hopefuls didn’t look quite as devastating when Grady Diangana was given a late run-out, with the ex-West Ham United attacker managing just five lacklustre touches.

Therefore, with Wallace missing for several weeks, it could be an apt moment for Mowbray to gamble with this Tom Fellows understudy, who could well become the club’s next on-fire homegrown winger if given time.

West Brom's next Fellows

West Brom, of course, struck gold when gifting Fellows more regular senior opportunities just last season, with the constantly improving 21-year-old midfielder up to a breathtaking 11 assists this campaign in the second tier.

Therefore, the Baggies could hope history repeats itself with 19-year-old Akeel Higgins potentially being bumped up to the first team fold soon, having excited those at the Hawthorns already with his sublime U21 showings.

This season so far, Higgins has picked up one singular goal in Premier League 2 action – which was this stunning solo strike earlier in February – but he also has three assists next to his name to show off his unselfish approach when bursting forward, with an ambition to rival Fellows’ creativity if he is gifted a senior shot by Mowbray.

After all, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for the 61-year-old to throw the starlet into games moving forward, considering he worked alongside some top young assets in the form of Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham when still at the reins of Sunderland.

Looking at the table above, it does feel as if Higgins is overdue his moment in the first-team spotlight, with Fellows only needing 61 games for both the U18s and U21s before being unleashed into the senior picture.

Lauded as a “bright” prospect for the future by youth coach Richard Beale back in 2022, time will only tell if he can pass any forthcoming first team assessments with flying colours, having been gifted his senior debut already by Corberan last season.

Manoj Tiwary hints at retirement at the end of ongoing season

Manoj Tiwary has hinted that the ongoing 2022-23 season of the Ranji Trophy could be his last in first-class cricket, but he wants to make sure “to give Bengal a Ranji Trophy title on my way out”.Tiwary, who is in charge of Bengal because regular captain Abhimanyu Easwaran is away on national duty, led the from the front as the side, chasing 257 for victory against Uttar Pradesh at Eden Gardens, got to the target for the loss of four wickets in their Elite Group A game. Tiwary got in at 156 for 3 and ended with an unbeaten 60.Related

“We have to play like champions. We won today, but it’s not like we played exceptional cricket,” Tiwary, also a member of the legislative assembly in West Bengal, told reporters after the match. “If we look session-by-session, there were phases when we bowled badly. And our opening batters must score runs. If we want to win the Ranji Trophy, we must take our game to the next level.”Bengal have won the Ranji Trophy only twice in all these years, once way back in 1938-39 and then in 1989-90. Tiwary, who started playing first-class cricket in the 2004-05 season, has played the Ranji final thrice: in 2005-06, 2006-07 and, more recently, in 2019-20.”I am quite relaxed about leading the team,” the 37-year-old Tiwary said. “When I stepped down as the first-class captain of Bengal [during the 2018-19 season], I was told to continue as captain of the one-day and T20 sides, but I had refused, telling them that we need to groom a younger player as captain. But [in Abhimanyu’s absence], I realised I have to take this responsibility because decision-making is such a crucial part of the game.”Though he did ask for more from the bowling unit – which was missing Mukesh Kumar, who was out in Bangladesh with India A – Tiwary had words of praise for his pace spearhead Ishan Porel, who hasn’t played a lot of cricket of late but earned the Player-of-the-Match award against Uttar Pradesh for his match haul of seven wickets, including a five-for in the first innings.”Porel’s comeback has been quite good,” Tiwary said. “He wasn’t available for the Vijay Hazare [50-over] Trophy tournament, but he proved his worth here. I have spoken to him: we are playing at a level where we must forget what has happened in the past; every minute, every second, we must tell the world why I am Ishan Porel, or why I am Manoj Tiwary. That is the mentality that will help him become a champion.”Bengal’s next game is against Himachal Pradesh, also at home at Eden Gardens, from December 20.

Chelsea now table blockbuster £66m bid to sign "electric" 11-goal star

With the wheels coming off of what was initially set to be a solid first season under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea have reportedly already tabled a blockbuster offer to sign a fresh attacking star this summer.

Chelsea transfer news

After splashing the cash once again last summer, it looked as though Todd Boehly’s tactic was finally set to pay off. At last, the American had thrown enough at the transfer market to make something stick by hiring Maresca and welcoming a horde of young talents.

Just months later, however, and the Blues are back outside of the top four and on course to miss out on Champions League qualification yet again despite getting back to winning ways over Southampton last time out.

So, naturally, the solution looks destined to come via the summer transfer window once more as Boehly aims to spend his way out of a hole surrounded by disappointing buys.

The American could be onto something with this one though, setting his sights on an attacking reinforcement who has been a standout for one of Europe’s top sides this season.

ByBarney Lane Feb 27, 2025

According to reports in Spain, Chelsea have tabled a blockbuster €80m (£66m) offer to sign Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund this summer, but are reportedly set to fail with that bid with the German club demanding €100m (£83m) to sell their star winger.

That may not be the end of a growing transfer saga, however, with reports failing to rule out the chance that Chelsea decide to match Gittens’ hefty valuation and welcome him back to English football for the first time since leaving Manchester City in 2020.

Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Bynoe-Gittens in action

Whilst the Blues have already got more than enough wingers to choose from, there’s no denying that Gittens would be an instant upgrade in Maresca’s side over the likes of Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho.

"Electic" Gittens would be an instant upgrade

Chelsea’s pursuit of a winger may well be a cautionary tale these days, but Gittens is among those likely to end their trend of transfer flops. The former Manchester City man has shown the goalscoring prowess that both Neto and Sancho have otherwise lacked, scoring 11 goals in all competitions and earning the praise of Ben Mattinson in doing so.

The analyst praised the Dortmund star’s “electric pace” and “killer” instinct at the beginning of the year in two traits that are likely to develop more and more in the coming years.

At just 20 years old, all signs are pointing towards the top of European football for Gittens’ career. Whether that includes a stop in the Premier League and at Stamford Bridge remains to be seen, however.
