INEOS willing to spend big on "dominant" £33m ace for Amorim at Man Utd

Manchester United and INEOS are now willing to spend significant money on a “dominant” £33 million ace, according to a recent report.

Man Utd transfer news

Despite the summer transfer window not opening for a few months, the Red Devils continue to be linked with potential new faces – it is expected to be a busy period for the club as they look to move the deadwood on and bring in fresh, hungry players who suit Ruben Amorim’s style.

Man Utd scouts monitoring "incredible" £28m man who can out-jump Ronaldo

A new target man has now emerged on Man Utd’s and INEOS’ radar, as Ruben Amorim eyes reinforcements.

1 ByBrett Worthington Feb 20, 2025

It could be said that, given how the season has gone for United, there are multiple positions that Amorim and INEOS want to strengthen this summer. It looks as though Geovany Quenda could be the first signing of the summer, as the 17-year-old has now agreed personal terms with United.

Ben Jacobs revealed this week that the Premier League side were progressing in talks to sign Quenda from Sporting CP, but they want to make a deal at £33 million while the Portuguese side want £50 million, meaning a compromise will be needed.

Quenda is obviously someone that Amorim knows well and while that is an exciting addition for United, they will also be keen on strengthening a forward line that has lacked goals this season. The Red Devils have been linked with many forwards in recent weeks, with Youssef En-Nesyri the latest to be of interest to United.

United are monitoring the Fenerbahçe striker after being linked with the player in previous transfer windows. En-Nesyri is impressing in Turkey, scoring 15 goals in 22 Süper Lig games.

Man Utd willing to spend big on £33m Real Madrid playmaker

As United potentially close in on a deal for Quenda, they are also looking at signing another young talent, as according to a report from Spain, Man United have shown a strong interest in signing Arda Güler from Real Madrid and are willing to spend big to secure a transfer.

The 19-year-old joined Madrid in the summer of 2023 and, despite his struggles in Spain, United are willing to offer him a route out of the Spanish capital, as he continues to struggle for regular minutes.

It is said that Real Madrid will have to make a decision about the player’s future, as his quality is unquestionable, it is just a lack of minutes that could mean he leaves the club. The summer transfer window is expected to be significant in deciding his future.

Guler’s price-tag is said to be around the £33 million mark, which is probably lower than United would have expected. However, his lack of game time means he hasn’t really caught the eye while in Spain. This season, he has played 27 games in all competitions, but only nine have come as starts.

Guler has been praised by many players and managers in recent times, with Montenegro manager Robert Prosinecki labelling Guler as a “dominant” player: “His IQ is at a high level. He is a very dominant player with the ball. He always thinks about attacking.”

"Sensational" £80m star desperate to join Arsenal before transfer deadline

A “sensational” striker is desperate for his club to let him join Arsenal before the 11pm transfer deadline tonight, according to a report.

Gunners pursuing a striker

The Gunners blitzed past reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, and Kai Havertz found himself on the scoresheet, but some additional attacking firepower may be needed if they are going to catch Liverpool.

That is the view of Thierry Henry, who told Sky Sports after the game: “We need a No.9. Nobody is going to be asking for a No.9 after you win 5-1. But we should be asking for one – the situation is still the same. We’ve been asking for a No.9 for four transfer windows.”

There have been a number of top strikers linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko following the Slovenian’s impressive showings in the Bundesliga.

Ollie Watkins, who is valued at above £80m by Aston Villa, has also emerged as a major target over the past few days, with Mikel Arteta’s side submitting a bid in the region of £45m, which was knocked back by the Villans.

With the transfer deadline just hours away, Arsenal are considering a last-gasp bid for Watkins, who is desperate to move to north London, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

The striker is said to be gutted that Villa have rebuffed the Gunners’ advances for him in the past few days, given that he grew up supporting the club, with his current employers unwilling to sanction his departure after already selling Jhon Duran this month.

The 29-year-old has previously stated it would be a “dream” to play for the club he supported growing up, and he still wants to join, but time is running out.

1 ByEthan Lamb Feb 3, 2025 Villa unlikely to let Watkins leave at this stage

Villa wrapped up a deal to sign Marcus Rashford on loan earlier today, with the Manchester United man being handed the number 9 shirt, but it still seems unlikely they will sanction Watkins’ departure at this stage of the transfer window.

It will be very difficult for Unai Emery to bring in a replacement at this stage, and Arsenal may not be able to satisfy the Villans’ demands, considering they want over £80m, given the England international’s fine record in front of goal.

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has previously described the Villa star as “sensational”, and given that he is so keen on the move after growing up as a fan, it could have been a perfect fit.

However, Arsenal may be better off waiting until the end of the season before making a move for a striker, and Sesko could be the preferable option, given that he is just 21-years-old, while Watkins is now 29.

The BBL has suffered a major blow just weeks out from the start of a new season with Liam Livingstone, the number one pick in the inaugural overseas draft, withdrawing from the tournament due to his increased international workload.Livingstone was the first player picked by Melbourne Renegades in August and was the most sought-after player in the draft as the BBL looked to reinvigorate the tournament ahead of the next Cricket Australia TV rights negotiation which is set to be finalised in 2024.Livingstone was initially set to play the first part of the BBL and miss the second half having signed to play in the new SA20 league in January. He was then selected for England’s Test tour of Pakistan in December. Renegades signed Andre Russell on a short-term four-game deal for the start of the season in the hope Livingstone could join Renegades for a short stint following the Pakistan tour and prior to the SA20 getting underway.Related

But Livingstone has opted to withdraw from the BBL entirely, leaving the competition without another overseas platinum player after David Willey also withdrew from the tournament.”We’re obviously disappointed that we won’t have Liam as part of our team this summer, but we understand his decision,” Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said.”Liam is a fantastic cricketer and there’s a reason we used our first pick in the draft to select him. Since then, his schedule has changed with added international duties and we wish him the best as he pushes for a Test debut.”We know Liam had been looking forward to working with our head coach, David Saker, and playing for our club. Hopefully, we can make that happen in the coming seasons.”We have been in regular communication with Liam and his management over the last couple of months, which has allowed us to execute a plan that is best for the Renegades for this season.”We’ve already secured Andre Russell for the first four matches and know the match-winning ability he will add to our team.”This news has allowed us to explore replacement options with greater availability beyond the first half of the tournament, and we look forward to being able to announce another big-name addition for the Renegades soon.”The news comes after it was revealed that Perth Scorchers’ overseas signing Laurie Evans had tested positive for a banned substance following a routine anti-doping test during this year’s Hundred, with the club announcing they had cancelled his deal.Australia star Glenn Maxwell is also likely to miss most of the BBL after breaking his leg in a freak accident on November 12.

NCL week 5: Rangpur Division at top in tier 1 with one round to go

Dhaka Metropolis are ahead in tier 2, but Rajshahi and Barishal are not too far behind

Mohammad Isam10-Nov-2022Rangpur Division jumped to the top of the points table in tier 1 of the National Cricket League after their ten-wicket win over Chattogram Division in Savar. Sylhet Division, meanwhile, lost to Dhaka Division by 333 runs, and will now have to beat Rangpur in their last-round match if they are to clinch their maiden title.Dhaka Metropolis gave themselves the best chance for promotion from tier 2 after their two-wicket win against Rajshahi Division. Elsewhere, Khulna Division got their first win of the season, a ten-wicket hammering of Barishal Division.Best batters
Eight centuries were scored in this round, with the Dhaka pair of Abdul Mazid and Shuvagata Hom leading with the most valuable ones. Dhaka were bowled out for 113 in the first innings, but their bowlers fought back and bowled out Sylhet for 76. Dhaka then slipped to 136 for 4 with three of their top six getting ducks. However, Mazid and Hom steadied the ship by adding 254 runs for the fifth wicket, and completely changed the direction of this game. Mazid top-scored with 176 with 11 fours and seven sixes, while Hom struck 16 fours and three sixes in his 145.Rangpur’s massive win over Chattogram was made easy by veteran Naeem Islam reaching his 29th first-class century. He was unbeaten on 131 off 251 balls with 11 fours and a six. He was at the crease for more than six hours to ensure Rangpur got a 263-run first innings lead. Chattogram’s Pinak Ghosh struck a century off 264 balls with ten fours, but could only take his side to even Rangpur’s first-innings total.Dhaka Metropolis’ Mohammad Naim and Sharifullah struck centuries against Rajshahi. Naim raced to 112 off 105 balls with nine fours and five sixes, while Sharifullah rounded up an exact 100 off 129 balls with 11 fours and three sixes in response to Rajshahi’s 252.Tanzid Hasan struck 101 in the first innings with seven sixes and six fours, while Mushfiqur Rahim missed out on a second-innings century, getting out for 97.Moin Khan reached his maiden first-class century, scoring 102 with seven fours and two sixes after Barishal were asked to follow-on in their defeat against Khulna.Best bowlers
Rangpur’s seamers Robiul Haque and Musfik Hasan were the stars with the ball. Robiul picked up 5 for 13 in the first innings and 3 for 50 in the second against Chattogram, while Musfik’s 4 for 60 in the first innings was crucial too.Sylhet’s Enamul Haque took 5 for 33 to give his side the advantage against Dhaka, who were rolled for 113, but Dhaka’s pace duo of Salauddin Sakil and Sumon Khan shared 15 wickets between them, giving Dhaka a 37-run lead. Left-arm quick Sakil took 5 for 14 and 3 for 52, while Sumon finished with seven wickets in the match their win over Sylhet. Rajshahi’s Nahid Rana continued to impress, picking up 5 for 76 and 4 for 51 against Khulna.Best match
Dhaka Metro’s two-wicket win against Rajshahi did not provide just a thrilling finish but also an important result. Batting first, Rajshahi were bowled out for 252 runs despite Tanzid’s 101. Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan took four wickets, while Abu Hider and Sharifullah took three each.In response, Sharifullah and Naim struck hundreds to give Dhaka Metro a 121-run lead. Rajshahi were then bowled out for 297, with Sharifullah again doing the job with the ball, taking 4 for 59. Chasing 177, Dhaka Metro found it tricky as they lost regular wickets until Hider and Rakibul took them home with an unbroken 15-run stand for the ninth wicket.Points to ponder
Sylhet need to beat Rangpur outright by eight points to win their maiden title, while Rangpur need only a draw to lift their second NCL trophy. Dhaka Division too have a chance but only if they win by an innings or ten wickets.Dhaka Metro are on 25 points, Rajshahi on 22 and Barishal on 19. The top team from tier 2 will get a promotion to tier 1.Players to watch
Sumon and Sakil have been excellent for Dhaka during this season. Sumon is currently the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 26 scalps from five games, at an average of 9.88 and a strike rate of 23.7. Sakil has 21 wickets from four games, at an even better average (8.95) and strike rate (21.9). Sakil has done well in the past as well, for Sumon, this is his breakout season.

Man Utd now targeting "colossal" new £30m+ defender wanted by Liverpool

Manchester United are now eyeing up a new defender for Ruben Amorim as they look to continue to revamp their side ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with their current Premier League season already well beyond repair.

Manchester United target youth

As part of the club’s plan to return to the top of English football in an economically sustainable way, Manchester United have switched their focus away from older, more established players following a string of failed signings.

Casemiro is the latest player to fail to justify his hefty price tag, following the likes of Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hojlund, with the Brazilian now seemingly out of favour following the arrival of Amorim and consigned to a spot on the substitutes bench every week.

Agents of £75m "leader" seeking big transfer and Man Utd are name-checked

United and INEOS have their eye on signing a player who has an expensive release clause.

ByBrett Worthington Feb 14, 2025

This change of policy has been evident in recent windows, with the Red Devils signing Leny Yoro (18) and Joshua Zirkzee (21) in the most recent summer window before adding Ayden Heaven (18) and Patrick Dorgu (20) last month.

It certainly prevents immediate success, with Manchester United turning down the chance to sign Champions League top scorer Serhou Guirassy last January for just £15m over fears he was too old at 27, instead opting to wait six months to sign Zirkzee while Guirassy moved to Borussia Dortmund.

However, the hope is that it will lead to longer term success, and with signings needed all over the pitch, they cannot afford massive transfer fees across the board. As a result, they are now reportedly exploring what could prove a bargain move to sign a new defender.

Manchester United tracking EURO 2024 winnner

Now, reports in Spain claim that Manchester United are one of a trio of clubs tracking Athletic Club centre-back Dani Vivian ahead of a potential bargain move for the defender this summer.

Vivian, who was part of Spain’s EURO 2024 winning squad, has impressed in the Basque Country in recent seasons, and now 25, he is entering into his peak years. Dubbed “colossal” by The Athletic’s data writer Thom Harris, the Spaniard has started 18 times in LaLiga this season, scoring three goals in the process.

His performances have caught the eye of clubs in the Premier League and in Spain, with the report claiming that Atlético Madrid, Liverpool and United all “see him as a key piece to strengthen their respective defences for next season”.

Meanwhile, he has a release clause in his contract set at just €40m (£33m), which could prove excellent value for money given his recent performances.

At Old Trafford, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are set to depart as free agents at the end of the season, while Matthijs De Ligt has done little to inspire confidence since his arrival and Harry Maguire is entering the final 18 months of his own contract with the Red Devils.

With Lisandro Martinez also likely to be sidelined for much of the rest of 2025 with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, a new centre-back is almost certain to be high on Amorim’s wishlist this summer, and Vivian could provide a perfect market opportunity.

Fawad Alam, Asif Mehmood rescue Sindh with strong eighth-wicket stand

Cometh the hour, cometh the man – with some help. Fawad Alam has not had a bad season, certainly not poor enough to have been dropped from the Pakistan Test side. But it has not been as prolific, perhaps, as previous seasons; an average of 57 masking a series of starts that he has not cashed in on. But on the first day of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, there he was doing what Fawad Alam has been doing pretty much all his career: saving his side.Having been put into bat, Alam arrived with Sindh relatively stable at 112 for 3. But over the afternoon session, they would fall to 151 for 7 against Northern, before an unbroken 79-run stand between Alam and Asif Mehmood took Sindh to a slightly more secure 230 for 7 when the end arrived nine overs early because of fading light. Mehmood was the real hero, an 89-ball unbeaten 56 at close his maiden first class fifty. But Alam’s presence through the collapse and then the partnership itself was exactly the calm Sindh needed. At the centre of Sindh’s mini collapse was Mubasir Khan, the young offspinning allrounder who has, in some ways, been the player of the season. He’s the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament this season and has scored over 500 runs for the season at an average above 50. He took two wickets today, building on the two early breakthroughs provided by Mohammad Musa Khan in the morning session. Both sides are missing key players, called up for Pakistan’s Test squad as they prepare for the series with England. Both the regular captains – Northern’s Nauman Ali and Sindh’s Saud Shakeel are currently with Pakistan, while Sarfaraz Ahmed, the leggie Zahid Mehmood and this season’s breakthrough, Sindh’s Abrar Ahmed are also with the Pakistan squad.

Birmingham City now closing in on signing of 31 y/o international defender

Birmingham City are edging closer to completing the signing of an international player as their final signing of the January transfer window, according to an update from journalist Charlie Haffenden.

Latest Birmingham news

This has been a campaign to treasure for Blues supporters so far, with their players backing up the early-season hype and topping the League One table, standing out as the team to beat in the division.

Last Saturday’s 2-1 victory at home to Rotherham United was another positive step in the right direction for Chris Davies’ side, who sit four points clear of second-place Wycombe Wanderers, as well as having two games in hand on them, putting them in a wonderful position.

Meanwhile, Birmingham have been linked with plenty of new signings during the current transfer window, with Swansea City centre-back Harry Darling mentioned as an option earlier in the month. The 25-year-old looks set to stay put at the Championship club, however, not yet sealing a move away with the hours ticking by.

Mainz and USA midfielder Lennard Maloney is another player who has been linked with a move to St Andrew’s midway through the season, looking to further bolster Davies’ squad in the process. Like Darling, though, it looks like he will remain with the German side until at least the summer transfer window.

Now, an exciting rumour has dropped regarding some late business for the League One leaders, as they look to get one last move over the line.

Birmingham closing in on 31 y/o ace

According to Birmingham World‘s Haffenden on X, Birmingham are “on track” to sign Ulsan HD left-back Lee Myung-jae on deadline day, as they look to get a deal done for the 31-year-old South Korea international.

“Understand Birmingham City are on track to complete the signing of current South Korea international left-back Lee Myung-jae on a free transfer. Told the 31-year-old will be the final senior addition at BCFC in this transfer window.”

As mentioned, Myung-jae would be Birmingham’s final addition of the window, but he could be an astute signing with plenty of experience in his career. The left-back has won seven caps for South Korea, meaning the Blues would be signing a player with genuine pedigree at a high level, even though he hasn’t played in Europe before, which is one drawback.

For Birmingham, it is a case of being ruthless in the promotion battle and not giving the likes of Wycombe and Wrexham any sniff of hope, and signing players like Myung-jae will only boost their chances of making a return to the Championship.

Birmingham could land "heroic" Sanderson upgrade this month

The fact that the South Korean can also thrive as a centre-back means that he could provide competition for Alex Cochrane on the left-hand side of the back-three that Davies often favours, and he could also be an option as a wing-back, even if it’s more attack-minded than his usual role.
