Ange thinks 19 y/o could usurp Bentancur, Spurs now favourites to sign him

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has personally set his sights on a 19-year-old midfielder who he thinks could challenge Rodrigo Bentancur.

Spurs targeting new midfielders ahead of summer window

The Spurs midfield could look slightly different by the start of next season. While both Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have become fixtures in Postecoglou's starting elevens over the Australian's debut managerial campaign, the same certainly cannot be said of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham trying to convince £34m World Cup ace to join Ange this summer

He’s being “courted” by the Lilywhites.

ByEmilio Galantini Apr 11, 2024

The Denmark international has actually played a lot of Premier League minutes, but the vast majority of them have come as a substitute. Hojbjerg has started just six top flight matches over 2023/2024, with reliable media sources like Fabrizio Romano claiming he could leave in search of more game time.

The 28-year-old's contract also expires next year, so Spurs would surely rather sell him for a decent market price now than risk losing him for free. Bentancur is another curious case, as the Uruguayan has impressed overall during his time at N17 but also finds himself on the treatment table more often than not.

Bentancur missed 43 games across 2022/2023, mainly due to an unfortunate ACL tear, and unfortunately for him, he was sidelined again this season with torn ankle ligaments – with that injury resulting in his absence for six matches (Transfermarkt).

Rodrigo Bentancur.

Supporters will be hoping that is more or less the end of Bentancur's real unluckiness when it comes to fitness, but in any case, it has been widely reported that Postecoglou's side could look to bolster their midfield options.

Tottenham are believed to hold an interest in Conor Gallagher amid his contract stand-off with Chelsea, while other names like Atalanta's Ederson are on their radar ahead of the summer window. This week, an interesting new name has now been linked.

Ange sets sights on Hugo Larsson for Tottenham

Indeed, it is believed the Lilywhites now hold a real interest in Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson.

The 19-year-old has burst on to the scene in Germany this season, starting 20 Bundesliga matches and impressing, which has turned the heads of elite clubs across Europe.

According to Football Transfers, Postecoglou has personally set his sights on Larsson, and the Spurs boss believes he could even challenge Bentancur for a place in the side.

Tottenham's manager is believed to be a real admirer of the Sweden international starlet and has been impressed with his performances, so much so that his side are intensifying their efforts to bring in Larsson as they emerge as the frontrunners for his signature.

Edu sends Arsenal chief to see "serious talent", his new scout loves him

Arsenal have sent their scouts out to watch an exciting new striker in action over the weekend, ahead of a potential summer move.

Arsenal gunning for glory

Into Mikel Arteta's fourth full season at the helm, his Arsenal side are pushing for a Premier League and Champions League double. A 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday saw Liverpool leapfrog them at the top of the Premier League, but they sit just two points behind Jurgen Klopp's side with nine games left to play, with City a further point back.

Meanwhile, they advanced to the Champions League quarter-final and face a clash with old bullies Bayern Munich, before a semi-final against one of Manchester City and Real Madrid, who face off in the other quarter-final on their side of the draw.

All of this has been achieved with quite a major hole in their side, and striker is a position that they are looking to fill this summer. Now, they are seemingly taking steps to prepare.

Arsenal send scouts to Portugal

Now, it has emerged that Arsenal have sent scouts to Portugal this weekend, with the talented Porto striker Evanilson the main man that their talent spotters have been lured in to watch.

Of course, Arsenal have already had a couple of close looks at his talent. Evanilson started both legs against the Gunners in the Champions League round of 16, though he made little impact and was substituted late on in both games.

It’s not looking good…

ByTom Cunningham Mar 30, 2024

That hasn't dampened Arsenal's enthusiasm though, and HITC report that Mikel Arteta's side sent their scouts to Portugal to keep tabs on him once more in Porto's clash with Estoril, where they were joined by Newcastle's scouts too. Evanilson will be hoping that he isn't judged off that particular performance, with the Brazilian failing to hit the target with any of his three shots and being booked in a surprise 1-0 loss for the Portuguese giants.

FC Porto striker Evanilson.

His talent is clear to see though, with the 24-year-old having scored 22 goals in 35 outings so far this season, as well as grabbing six assists. Labelled a "serious talent" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, there is clearly still plenty more to come from the star.

And he has his fans in North London. Specifically, Arsenal's new scout for South American talent, Paulo Xavier, is thought to have been impressed by the Brazilian frontman, and could well be the man behind the Gunners interest ahead of the summer window.

It remains to be seen whether a move materialises, with Porto thought to be holding out for a fee of around £65m for any deal to occur this summer and the likes of Ivan Toney, Victor Gyokores and Alexander Isak all also thought to be on Arsenal's radar in their hunt for a new no.9.

Sixathon on the cards in series decider at Wankhede

The teams return to the venue where West Indies knocked India out of the 2016 World T20

Simmons: Let’s see who wins the Kohli-Williams contest in Mumbai

Big pictureMarch 31, 2016, Mumbai. West Indies outgunned India in the semi-final and went onto become World T20 champions. They have fallen off the perch since and are currently No. 10 on the ICC T20I rankings , but don’t let that fool you. More than three years after knocking India out at the Wankhede Stadium, West Indies are back at the venue, preparing for their title defence in Australia next year.Their two CPL 2019 stars – batsman Brandon King and legspinner Hayden Walsh Jr.- have gelled in nicely while Lendl Simmons has proved that he still has it. Kieron Pollard has been inventive with his captaincy and the seamers Kesrick Williams and Sheldon Cottrell have impressed with their canny variations in pace and length.ALSO READ: Simmons does an RKO on India, out of nowhereHowever, it is West Indies’ power-hitting that could be their biggest strength on what’s likely to be a familiar, flat Wankhede track. Let’s not even bring up the short boundaries. The likes of Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer and Simmons kept clearing the longer boundaries in Thiruvananthapuram with considerable ease. And ahead of the series opener in India, West Indies had trained at full tilt in Mumbai before heading to Hyderabad. Plus, Simmons, Evin Lewis and Pollard himself have spent enough time with Mumbai Indians to crack the winning formula at the Wankhede Stadium: just keep hitting sixes.Lendl Simmons and Nicholas Pooran celebrate victory•BCCI

West Indies, though, will have to contend with the absence of finisher Fabian Allen, who still hasn’t recovered from a knee injury.India have issues of their own to deal with. They need to tighten their catching and fielding, particularly under lights, and they probably need more from their lower middle order against West Indies, who, in contrast, are armed with a variety of six-hitters. With the series on the line in Mumbai, India might not experiment with their XI, but on the eve of the game India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma didn’t rule out the possibility of the hosts being flexible with their batting line-up.Form guideIndia LWWWL (last five completed games, most recent first)

After Lewis carted him for a brace of sixes in the second ODI, Washington bounced back to have the opener stumped and ended with 4-0-26-1. Team newsWith the series up for grabs, India are likely to retain the XI that played the first two games of the series. Spurs could sign a "magic" Kulusevski upgrade in £51m deal

Ange Postecoglou will be well aware of his Tottenham Hotspur side's constant ebb and flow this season, with the halcyon days of August through to early November proving to be an inaccurate gauge of the squad's level.

It's important to remember that under the Australian's mentorship, Spurs have lifted themselves from the bleakness of the 2022/23 campaign and are headed for a return to European competition.

Micky van de Ven for Tottenham

But after being thrashed 4-0 at St. James' Park in the Premier League on Saturday, Spurs have ceded three points in the race for top four, with Aston Villa incredibly winning at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal on Sunday.

It is, however, clear that Tottenham require more than a patching-over this summer. Impactful additions are imperative, and Postecoglou might just be eyeing up the perfect player to strengthen the frontline.

Spurs' summer transfer plans

Tottenham will seek to strengthen across a number of positions but there is no doubt that Postecoglou is interested in improving his forward options, with much still to be desired this year.

As such, according to German reporter Christian Falk, the Lilywhites are interested in lodging a move for RB Leipzig winger Dani Olmo, who is available if his €60m (£51m) buyout clause is met.

Dani Olmo for RB Leipzig

While Tottenham would present an interesting package for the player, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all registered their intrigue as well.

Why Spurs are interested in Dani Olmo

Olmo is a terrific attacking midfielder and while he has featured centrally in the past, he is starting to find his most impressive performances arrive when placed on the wing.

Across all competitions, the 25-year-old has scored eight goals and supplied five assists from 22 matches this season, including a hat-trick as Leipzig won the German Supercup over Bayern Munich back in August.

While he had been afflicted with injuries in the early phase of the campaign, Olmo has rebounded to click into gear recently and is proving that, should hit fitness prevail, he is one of the most exciting and influential wide forwards around, having been described as a "magic" player by talent scout Jacek Kulig.

As per FBref, the Spain international ranks among the top 16% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for shots taken and the top 18% for assists per 90, showcasing his ruthless ability in and around the final third.

If he continues to produce his recent performance quality, carrying these fruits over to English football, then Olmo could present the likes of Dejan Kulusevski with a real headache.

Kulusevski is an immense member of Postecoglou's team but he has seen his consistency wane in recent fixtures and has actually been benched for the past three Premier League matches after being hooked at half-time against Luton Town, a consequence of Brennan Johnson's emphatic recent form.

While the Sweden international is a real workhorse, he's not been very effective of late and has taken just three shots across his past five top-flight matches, missing the target twice and seeing his other attempt blocked, as per Sofascore.

Dejan Kulusevski.

Moreover, he has only created five key passes from as many games, failing to register a goal contribution during this period.

While Kulusevski will remain a member of the Tottenham team and has proven on many occasions this season his singular quality, Olmo's introduction could see his match action diminish further.

Ratcliffe pushing: Man Utd want to sign “remarkable” target over Liverpool

Manchester United are pushing to complete the signing of a "remarkable" player in the summer transfer window, looking to beat Liverpool to his signature in the process.

Man Utd chasing attacking reinforcements

The Red Devils have flattered to deceive in various areas all season long, and while injuries have played a part in their struggles, the lack of elite quality in the squad has been highlighted alarmingly.

In attack, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho are young players with high ceilings, but both remain raw talents, while far more has been required from the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony, who have scored just seven goals in a combined 55 Premier League appearances, all of which have been netted by the former, in fairness.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to United, in what would be a stellar piece of business, with journalist Malu Mpasinkatu claiming the Red Devils are "on him" currently. The Nigerian has again had a good season for the Serie A champions, scoring 13 times in just 18 league starts.

Victor Osimhen

VfB Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy is another candidate tipped to come in and add competition in the final third, having been backed to head to the Premier League many times in recent months, including being linked with Newcastle United.

It would be a big surprise if at least one major attacking addition didn't arrive in the summer, and now a new name has been thrown in alongside Osimhen and Guirassy.

Man Utd pushing to sign "remarkable" striker

According to a new transfer report from HITC, Manchester United want to move for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres before the summer, in order to pip Liverpool in the race to snap him up.

The update claims that the Swede is "one who has stood out to the club’s hierarchy", adding that Ratcliffe's company INEOS specifically "are willing to push ahead with transfer plans, if it means missing out on certain targets".

Viktor Gyokeres in action for Sporting

Gyokeres stands out as a fantastic option for United this summer, having moved to Sporting from Coventry City and showing that he is more than capable of excelling in a top European league.

He has scored 22 goals in 27 Primeira Liga appearances in 2023/24 to date, as well as registering 10 assists, and he has been hailed by Estoril manager Vasco Seabra earlier in the campaign, with the rival boss saying of him: "He is also in an extraordinary moment of form, it is a signing that seems remarkable for the championship and for Sporting in particular."

Gyokeres could come in and ease the burden on Hojlund, who remains a young player learning his trade, producing consistent end product and linking effectively with the wide players either side of him.

Man Utd must soon unleash Hojlund rival who's their best teen since Mainoo

The Man United prospect could be their best talent since Kobbie Mainoo.

ByTom Lever Apr 15, 2024

He has shown that he can thrive in the English game, netting 43 times for Coventry, and at 25 years of age, United would be getting a player about to come into his prime.
