A former Manchester United manager has told Sir Jim Ratcliffe to hire a "great coach" in place of Erik ten Hag this summer, as the Dutchman battles to save his job.

Ten Hag has found himself increasingly under pressure this season, following a campaign that has hugely disappointed overall, particularly compared to last term. United have struggled to find consistency at any point, both in terms of performances and results, and they sit sixth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday's daunting visit to local rivals Manchester City.

While no decision has officially been made yet regarding the Dutchman's future at Old Trafford, an increasing number of reports are emerging that suggest replacements are being looked at ahead of the summer, and he is reportedly disagreeing with INEOS about aspects of their transfer approach.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is seen as a "standout" candidate to take charge at the end of the season, as he continues to shine with Brighton, playing an attractive brand of football and a strong work ethic from every single player – something arguably not on show at Old Trafford currently.

Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane have also been linked with being Ten Hag's successor should Ratcliffe decide that a change is needed, but a new claim has emerged regarding another possible target.

Man Utd urged to hire Julian Nagelsmann

According to an update from inews, former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has told the club to hire Julian Nagelsmann as their next manager this summer. He has given a "recommendation" to the Red Devils.

Nagelsman has been considered one of the most exciting young managers in Europe for some time now, bursting onto the scene during a spell at Hoffenheim when he was still in his 20s. Since then, the 36-year-old has won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich, and he is now in charge of the German national team ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.

He is set to leave at the end of the tournament as it stands, which would pave the way for a move to United, and he could stand out as a fresh, exciting option at Old Trafford, having been hailed by Argentina's World Cup-winning manager Lionel Scaloni:

"He’s a great coach. We’re following his work with big interest. We often look at his training sessions, we really like the way he trains. I hope that one day I’ll get to meet him personally."

The decision ultimately lies with Ratcliffe, who has to nail Ten Hag's replacement if he does sack him, bringing in a boss with modern ideas who can work effectively alongside a sporting director such as Dan Ashworth, who has strongly been linked with a switch from Newcastle United.

Nottingham Forest will be looking for just their second Premier League victory of 2024 when they take on Crystal Palace at the City Ground tomorrow afternoon.

Nuno Espírito Santo's side's last league victory came in February, with the Reds defeating David Moyes' side 2-0 thanks to goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Since the win, Forest have lost three and drawn one of the last five league outings, with the Tricky Trees needing to change their fortunes and change them fast.

Leeds United are back in action in the Championship on Sunday as they play host to Millwall at Elland Road in their latest chance to move closer to promotion back to the top-flight.

The Whites are currently second in the division and on course to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking, following their relegation at the end of last season.

They are competing with the likes of Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton to avoid having to go through the play-offs, which caused them pain when they lost to Derby County in the semi-finals during the 2018/19 campaign.

Despite their route to the Premier League being far from guaranteed at this time, Leeds are reportedly already looking at two players who could be signed for their potential top-flight season under Daniel Farke.

Football Insider reported on Monday that Tottenham Hotspur are set to provide Joe Rodon with the green light to complete a permanent move to Elland Road in the summer transfer window.

The report claims that the Premier League side are willing to part ways with the Wales international, who had failed to establish himself as a first-team star in London, on a permanent basis later this year.

He is said to be far down the pecking order under Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou, who signed centre-back Radu Dragusin in January, and that is why they are open to cashing in on him.

It also states that Leeds are 'desperate' to keep the impressive central defender in Yorkshire beyond the end of this season, and this latest update means that they are now well-placed to do so.

Football Insider adds that Farke's team will need to shell out a fee of between £10m and £15m to secure the Welsh colossus' signature ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, however, it remains to be seen how much they are prepared to pay for the former Swansea star.

Meanwhile, GIVEMESPORT have also reported that Leeds are eyeing up a potential swoop to sign a defender if they are promoted to the Premier League.

The outlet claims that the Whites are one of a number of clubs interested in a deal to snap up Borussia Monchengladbach left-back Luca Netz.

It states that he is on Farke and the recruitment team's radar ahead of the summer. However, the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the talented youngster.

Leeds could have an advantage over those Premier League giants as they could, possibly, offer him regular game time, which may not be on offer given the quality and competition on display at those top teams.

The report does not reveal how much it would take to convince the Bundesliga outfit to part ways with their star full-back at the end of the season, though.

Farke could now land a bigger talent than Rodon, who the club also want to sign in the summer, by winning the race to secure Netz's signature.

Joe Rodon's season in numbers

The Welsh titan was signed on loan from Spurs for the season last summer and has established himself as a regular starter at the heart of the defence for Leeds.

He had been paired with Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper earlier in the season but has now formed a formidable partnership with compatriot Ethan Ampadu, who is a midfielder by trade.

As you can see in the table below, the two Welsh enforcers have been a menace to opposition forwards as they have rarely allowed players to fire past Illan Meslier between the sticks.

Leeds have only conceded three goals in the 11 Championship matches that they have started next to each other at centre-back, which illustrates how strong they have been at the back.

Rodon has played 34 matches in the second tier in total for the Whites this term, and helped the side to keep 15 clean sheets as they battle to secure promotion to the Premier League.

However, it is worth noting that the 26-year-old defender is yet to prove himself in a major European league. He was an unused substitute in 17 Ligue 1 matches for Rennes, and played 16 times, last season, whilst the centre-back only started eight games in two Premier League seasons with Spurs.

A bigger talent than Rodon

Leeds could land a bigger talent than Rodon by landing a deal to sign Netz, who has already established himself as a regular starter in a major European league by the age of 20.

The German full-back, who does not turn 21 until May, has started 20 of Borussia Monchengladbach's 25 Bundesliga matches throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

This shows that the Gladbach starlet has already achieved what Rodon has failed to do in six more years – prove himself in a top five European division.

As you can see in the table above, Netz has been a regular starter in the German top-flight and has provided quality at both ends of the pitch.

Despite his young age, he has consistently cut out opposition attacks and been strong in aerial duels, which shows that experienced operators have not dominated him in physical contests. In fact, the talented ace ranks within the top 12% of Bundesliga full-backs for aerial duels won (1.52) per 90.

He also ranks within the top 14% of his positional peers for assists (0.16) per 90 in the league this season, which highlights how impressive his attacking play has been from a creative perspective.

The 6 foot wizard, who was described as a "weapon" at left-back by U23 scout Antonio Mango, has showcased his qualities in and out of possession on a regular basis in the Bundesliga, whereas Rodon has only proven himself in the Championship at this moment in time.

Whilst they could both turn out to be excellent signings if Leeds earn promotion to the Premier League, Netz appears to be the bigger talent on paper and could be a fantastic long-term addition for Farke's side given his age and quality.

As Aston Villa gear up for what will undoubtedly be an action-packed end to the season, those behind the scenes at the Midlands club have already been urged to seal a summer signing by Sky Sports' Dan Bardell.

Bardell is certainly a fan of Palacios' possible arrival, urging Villa to pursue the Leverkusen man ahead of a potential Champions League campaign. The Sky Sports pundit told Aston Villa News: "I think they do need another central midfielder. McGinn is such a loss when he doesn’t play in those attacking wide positions and he had to fill the gap in central midfield before his suspension.

“I do think if they are in the Champions League, they are going to need more options than they’ve got now, especially with the new Champions League format. At the minimum now, I think we can say Villa are going to be in the Europa League next season, which would be a step up. I do think the German market is a good market because you’re talking about players there with European and Bundesliga experience.

“Villa have had success in the Bundesliga because Leon Bailey is having a fantastic season, and I do still think Diaby’s going to come good. Villa obviously have a relationship with Leverkusen as well, which might help."

"Terrific" Palacios can provide crucial depth

If Villa want to know how not to handle Champions League qualification and the balancing act that requires, all they need to do is look towards Newcastle United. The Magpies didn't add enough depth last summer, and injuries, combined with a congested schedule, have seen them struggle to replicate last season's form ever since.

Villa must avoid that at all costs, and Palacios, who Diaby played with last season in the Bundesliga, would be a good step towards that. The midfielder, who has a "terrific mentality" according to Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes, can step in as a backup for the likes of McGinn or even force Emery into making some difficult decisions regarding his midfield lineup for next season.

To avoid being held in contempt of court, the BCCI will wait for the Supreme Court of India’s approval before carrying out sweeping changes to its constitution, which would result in significantly rolling back the Lodha Committee’s reforms. The court is likely to hear the matter on December 3, listed “tentatively” as the date for the next hearing.The board has, however, reversed one key decision taken by the court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) that supervised the BCCI’s operations until October this year: secretary Jay Shah will attend the next meeting of the ICC’s chief executives’ committee (CEC) instead of CEO Rahul Johri, who had been attending the meetings in accordance with the CoA’s decision. This is a throwback to how it was to before the court took over the BCCI’s administration, when the board secretary attended the ICC’s CEC meetings.The BCCI took these decisions on Sunday at its annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai, which was attended by all its 38 members (state associations).Immediately after taking charge of the BCCI in October, the new administration led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly recommended six amendments to the board’s constitution. The proposed changes included stopping the court from having a say if the BCCI wanted to tweak its constitution, modifying the cooling-off period rule for the board’s office bearers, revising the disqualification criteria, and allotting supreme powers to the board’s secretary.The recommendations were meant to be passed at the AGM – with no opposition expected – if proposed. As per the constitution, a three-fourth majority is required to pass any amendment. It is understood that once Ganguly read out the recommendations to the general body, a majority of the representatives gave their verbal agreement, indicating they were willing to pass the amendments.However, according to one state representative who was present at the AGM, the amendments were not officially put to vote. “There was no passing of the amendments,” the representative said. “They did not put the amendments to vote or in front of the general body. They just said this would be required to be clarified by the Supreme Court first.”It is understood that more than one state association was willing to voice concern if the amendments were put to vote, pointing out that passing them without the court’s approval would amount to contempt of court. Incidentally, the court had said that the BCCI’s then acting secretary Amitabh Choudhury and treasurer Anriduh Chaudhry would accompany CoA members to the ICC’s meetings, comprising the CEC meeting, finance & commercial affairs (F&CA) committee meeting, and the ICC Board meeting.In a note to the state associations, sent as part of the AGM agenda last month, the BCCI pointed out that in order to “protect interests” of the Indian board, which it feared were being “eroded”, representatives to ICC meetings needed to be experienced and have the skills to negotiate.As for the BCCI representative for the F&CA and Board meetings, the general body left the decision to the board’s Apex Council. At the moment, the terms of two members of the men’s senior selection panel – MSK Prasad (chairman) and Gagan Khoda – have expired.The general body was told that the CAC and the other cricketing committees would be finalised by the BCCI office bearers “very soon”.Ganguly’s administration wants to approach the court to relax the conflict of interest rules, which would then allow it to have reputed former players as part of the CAC as well as other key committees, including the selection committee.”We met [the BCCI’s ethics officer Justice (retired)] DK Jain yesterday regarding the conflict of interest issue,” Ganguly told reporters after the AGM. “We need to get proper clarity from him about what is conflict and what is not conflict, because we don’t want to appoint someone [for the CAC] and then again he gets cancelled like it has happened in the past. So those clarifications were required.”
