Newcastle face transfer battle for Conor Gallagher

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is set to face a major transfer battle in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

What’s the story?

According to recent reports from journalist Alan Nixon, the Magpies have got their eye on the 21-year-old starlet, with the midfielder having spent the previous campaign on loan at fellow Premier League side West Brom.

Now, The Daily Mail claim that while Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to take a look at him before making any decision, Crystal Palace are keen to sign him right now.

Imagine him and Willock

If Bruce can get a deal over the line for Willock, then partnering him with Gallagher in the middle of the park could be the start of a dream midfield duo for Newcastle next season in the Premier League.

Despite not making too many waves in his time back at Stamford Bridge, Gallagher has been widely praised during his loan spells, with former Charlton boss Lee Bowyer even calling the £26m-rated midfielder a “jewel” that was “impossible to replace.”

And during his time at Swansea last year, Sky Sports pundit Keith Andrews lauded the “unbelievable” energy Gallagher possesses, even comparing him to Chelsea icon Frank Lampard.

He said: “But the one thing he has got is a fantastic engine, much like Lee Bowyer or Frank Lampard – it’s amazing, the resemblances between those two in their younger years particularly. But for me, he’s a classic No 8; he has an unbelievable energy, he does the ugly side of the game, but you have to let him off the leash and let him get forward.”

While two goals and two assists in the Premier League with West Brom last season is hardly anything to write home about, the Magpies wouldn’t need him to be a real goal threat if Willock were to put pen to paper on a permanent deal.

Gallagher could sit a touch deeper and break into the box from time to time rather than as the “classic no.8”, and be more of a destructive presence in the engine room – his 2.7 tackles per game in the top-flight actually ranked him in the top ten of the entire Premier League.

With Willock’s dynamism and eye for goal, and Gallagher’s energy and bite, Newcastle could have a superb midfield duo that compliment each other well.

Meanwhile, this man would be Newcastle’s best striker since Alan Shearer…

Wolves close to Bruno Lage capture

A rift between Nuno Santo and the Wolverhampton Wanderers hierarchy may have caused his surprise departure but they deserve praise for the way they’ve conducted themselves since.

Wolves have moved swiftly to find their new manager and they are now on the verge of an announcement.

What’s the word?

The Old Gold have had a few head coaches lined up with the likes of Frank Lampard and even Steven Gerrard under consideration.

However, more often than not, Fosun prefers to delve through Jorge Mendes’ book of contacts to bring one of his clients to Molineux.

They have been in talks with former Benfica boss Bruno Lage and according to renowned reporter Fabrizio Romano, a deal is on the verge of completion.

He took to social media this week to post the following:

“Wolves have completed the agreement to announce Bruno Lage as new manager in the next days, just a matter of time.”

What will he bring to Wolves?

Fosun will have every right to be delighted with this appointment for a number of reasons.

First and foremost, it will suit the extensive list of Portuguese players they have at their disposal.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-transfer-news-guedes-toney-shaqiri-neves” title=”Read the latest Wolves transfer news!”]

Wolves have made it a habit of signing players hailing from that region with the Midlands outfit possessing seven first-team players from that part of the world.

They may lose Ruben Neves and Rui Patricio this summer but they have an option to lure fellow Portuguese talent Vitinha to the club on a permanent basis to make up for it.

Their academy is also flooded with up and coming stars from the Mediterranean including Toti and Bruno Jordao.

Thus, in order for Wolves to continue operating in a similar way to the era of Nuno, they needed a young Portuguese coach who is willing to take these players under his wing.

He proved what a fabulous asset he can be for young players during his stay in Benfica.

Lage helped them to win the top-flight and brought Ruben Dias and Joao Felix through the ranks before their moves to Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

Now genuine world stars having won La Liga and the Premier League, the 45-year-old should be drooling over the talent he could have a similar impact on when he arrives at Molineux.

This feels like a perfect match in terms of how Wolves want to function. Jeff Shi will be delighted he’s about to finally get his man.

Warriors defeat Tigers and consolidate top spot

The Western Warriors have defeated Tasmania by sixty-four runs in the MercantileMutual Cup match at the WACA Ground, cementing top spot in the standings andalmost assuring themselves of a home final in a month’s time

Scott Holdaway26-Jan-2001The Western Warriors have defeated Tasmania by sixty-four runs in the MercantileMutual Cup match at the WACA Ground, cementing top spot in the standings andalmost assuring themselves of a home final in a month’s time. The Warriors grabbed the bonus point by skittling the Tigers for 206 in the thirty-ninth over, Graeme Cunningham (68) the last man out after skying an edge toRyan Campbell to hand the wicketkeeper six catches for the match. The Warriors now sit eight points clear of second-placed South Australiawith two games remaining, with Tasmania fifteen points adrift in fourthplace but with a game in hand.Warriors captain Tom Moody said that, while it was a timely result and good to getthe extra point, he was disappointed that the Warriors finished softly afterhaving the Tigers stranded at 4/13 in reply to their total of 7/270.”Unfortunately we didn’t finish the Tasmanians off the way we should havefinished them off,” Moody said after watching Shane Watson (25) and DeneHills (42), and then Cunningham and David Saker (26), combine to frustrate theWarriors attack.”That’s what we’ve done well the two previous games (against New South Walesand Victoria),” he said. “We made it pretty loud and clear after the gamethat we certainly need to make sure we finish teams off and do better thanthat when we get in the position.”The Warriors’ victory was spurred by another stubborn partnership betweenMurray Goodwin (71) and Mike Hussey (53), who managed a century stand afterarriving together at the crease with their side struggling at 3/108.The pair set about proving Tigers captain Jamie Cox wrong for choosing tobowl after winning the toss, a decision which proved fruitful early with thewickets of Campbell (28), Justin Langer (26) and Simon Katich (32).All three edged deliveries to ‘keeper Sean Clingeleffer after making startsat the crease, with Josh Marquet’s (2/46) medium pace beating the lattertwo.Continuing on from last week’s 257-run record domestic one-day third wicketstand against New South Wales, Goodwin and Hussey then cleverly increased the tempowithout taking any unnecessary risks.Goodwin quickly passed the fifty mark, making it four half-centuries fromsix one-day innings this season for the former Zimbabwean batsman, and theWarriors had found the momentum they were seeking.Just as the pair looked to break another record, however, their alliance was broken. Approaching the state’s record fourth-wicketpartnership mark of 110 set by Mike Veletta and Geoff Marsh in 1990-91, Daniel Marsh lured Goodwin out of his crease beforespinning the ball past his bat to hand Clingeleffer an easy stumping. After registering his own half century, Hussey soon holed out to Marsh from Scott Kremerskothen’s bowling with the score on 235 and the home side was suddenly left with five overs at the crease in which it needed to score quickly.Brendon Julian (22) joined Moody (10) in the quest but soon watchedhis captain depart, caught by Shaun Young at long off. And, after making some quickruns himself – including those gained from a powerful straight drive to the boundary – Julianbecame Kremerskothen’s third victim in a row in the last over.Tasmania’s run chase began disastrously when the efficient Darren Wates(2/21) and veteran Jo Angel (2/23) combined to generate some genuine pace andmuch movement off the pitch. The pair produced a series of seaming balls tohand ‘keeper Campbell four catches in the opening six overs, from the bats ofMichael DiVenuto (1), Young (7), Cox (4) and Marsh (0).Campbell’s catch to remove Cox was one of the best of the season, the twenty-eight year-old falling away to his right and gathering the ball just centimetres above the ground. At 4/13, Hills and Watson then battened down the hatches and produced ahalf-century partnership. But when Watson was bowled by Julian (2/50), itsparked another Tiger collapse which saw the visitors lose 4/39 in justeight overs.Cunningham let loose late in the innings to frustrate the Warriors, especially left-arm wrist spinner Brad Hogg (2/44 from 4.4 overs). Despite another half century partnership between the former ACT player and Saker, though, Hogg had the last laughand snared both scalps to tidy up the Tigers’ innings.Moody said ripping through the Tasmanian top order like the Warriors had doneearly on sometimes worked against the bowling attack.”As silly as it sounds, when you really do take the backbone of a side out -and the four wickets we had taken were the four experienced players in theirtop order – it’s a hard act to follow,” Moody said.”The people who come in after that come in with a carefree, swashbucklingattitude, and therefore they chance the runs.”Moody added that, while a home final was likely, the Warriors needed one morevictory to take an unnassailable lead over the rest of the competition.”I think there’s work to do in guaranteeing that we’ve got top spot, andalso work to do to make sure that we are at the peak of our powers,” he said.”Certainly today we didn’t reach our full potential.”With three matches remaining compared to the top three sides’ two, theTigers remain in the hunt for a berth in the Final and can still snare amaximum 12 points (plus bonus points). While victory against the Warriors could have catapulted Tasmania to equalthird on the ladder, they will still be buoyed by the chance to do the sameagainst Queensland in Brisbane next Friday.

Public and players deserve much better from pitches

The players turned up, the crowd turned up, more than 7000 of them, but someone forgot to order a pitch for the New Zealand-Zimbabwe Boxing Day Test at Wellington’s Basin Reserve

Lynn McConnell26-Dec-2000The players turned up, the crowd turned up, more than 7000 of them, but someone forgot to order a pitch for the New Zealand-Zimbabwe Boxing Day Test at Wellington’s Basin Reserve. Those who made the effort to shake off their post-Christmas Day torpor must have wondered why they bothered when the arrived at the ground for what has now become a New Zealand cricket tradition. For all their efforts what greeted them was a grey-looking, lifeless pitch that was a far cry from the superior pitches that have been prepared in recent years.Predictably, the play was dull with New Zealand crawling to a laborious 190/4 by stumps with Nathan Astle looking for a big score on 56 not out, off 174 balls and in 242 minutes, and Craig McMillan 20 not out.The real test of the effect of such a slow day’s batting will be seen in the number of people who bother to turn up tomorrow.New Zealand coach David Trist, never short of the right word, described the day’s play as being played at a “sonambulistic pace.”It would be a challenging Test match and the game would be played slowly, he said. The pitch would turn and once seeing the covers off the pitch that was why New Zealand decided to play both its slow bowlers, off-spinner Paul Wiseman and leg-spinner Brooke Walker.Zimbabwean coach Carl Rackemann said: “It is drier than what we expected. It is pretty much a dead sort of wicket but it is what both teams have got to deal with.”It is not an easy pitch to bat on, but it is not easy to get people out,” he said. That was reflected in the 60 runs per session during the day at a run rate of 2.11. As a result Rackemann felt the day had been “fantastic” for Zimbabwe.”Another wicket at stumps would have been deluxe for us,” he said.Trist still believes New Zealand has the chance to post a high enough score to allow it to dictate terms.”The game is poised. We have a platform and if we can bat well into the afternoon and have 330-340 that will be competitive. It should be an interesting match for the connoisseurs of cricket,” he said.New Zealand did nothing to help their cause by executing four dismissals of woeful waste.Nathan Astle, enjoying his longest and most productive Test innings since the 86 he scored in Harare earlier this summer, used the occasion well and by the end of play was starting to flow into his shots while his running between the wickets, especially in partnership with Craig McMillan, at last added some urgency to proceedings.”He batted with patience, diligence and made few errors,” Trist said of his performance.Running between the wickets was not always an asset on the day. Captain Stephen Fleming, who looked to be relishing the chance for a good, long innings, was run out just after lunch when called by Richardson, and then sent back. He seemed capable of scoring far more than the 22 achieved.Richardson, who had two lives, on 35 and 73, was sent back to the pavilion a little sooner than he might have wanted when he too was run out, the result of a fine piece of fielding by cover field Henry Olonga.Sensing that Richardson was labouring after being called through by Astle, Olonga changed his mind in mid-stride and threw to the opposite end. It fooled Richardson who was well short of his ground.Despite his 75 runs, Richardson was not happy with his effort.”I came into the match with some goals, to play with more control and composure than in South Africa,” he said. The run out of Fleming had not helped that goal.”There was a bit of head-chatter there for a while. There was a lot of stuff going on up top,” he said of the battle he had to regain his concentration.”I had to get my thoughts back in order. It is not the sort of wicket you can look good on.”My responsibility was to go through and bat the day out. I want to improve on that in the future. As the wicket turns guys will have to have a solid game plan and stick to it,” he said.Matt Horne’s return from injury was short-lived and the method of his dismissal, wafting at a wide ball that was better left alone, was probably just as painful as his original broken hand.Of all the wickets, Mathew Sinclair probably had the least control over his dismissal, sent packing leg before wicket by umpire Steve Dunne with what looked a line call from a ball bowled by Bryan Strang.

Internacional avança negociações e deve comprar Uendel do Corinthians

Publicamente, as duas diretorias negam a negociação.

Journalist drops major West Ham transfer claim

Writing on Twitter, Sport Italia TV journalist Gianluigi Longari has backed reports of a major transfer development at West Ham United.

The Lowdown; West Ham and Kral…

The Hammers, according to recent reports, could add to their Czech Republic contingent this summer with the addition of midfield powerhouse Alex Kral.

Indeed, he could join both Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek as additions from the nation and reports suggest talks are furthering for the player.

Football Insider recently reported that GSB are willing to pay over £20m to secure his services and discussions are at an advanced stage.

ExWHUemployee, meanwhile, also believes that the club want to get a deal done for him before the European Championships this summer (West Ham Way Podcast).

The Latest: Journalist backs reports of Kral to West Ham…

Now, writing on Twitter, journalist Longari has backed these reports of Kral potentially moving to east London this summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-news/” title=”West Ham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Dropping a four-word message on social media, the reporter states that the 23-year-old is in fact ‘leaving for West Ham’.

He also believes Kral’s current club, Spartak Moscow, are already on the hunt for a replacement and have earmarked Vasco da Gama midfielder Bruno Gomes as his replacement.

The Verdict: Time to get excited?

Numerous reports appear to be backing Kral to West Ham and we believe that, if the Irons can get a deal done, he may be the perfect midfield alternative to Soucek and Declan Rice.

West Ham will need strength in depth for the 2021/2022 season given they are set to compete in the Europa League group stages and the young Czech maestro is accomplished as a midfield anchor.

Over 2020/2021, Kral even managed the same amount of interceptions per 90 (1.8) as Rice and it certainly wouldn’t do any harm bringing in a capable alternative.

Irons supporters will surely be hoping this transfer comes to fruition, offering more depth in midfield and perhaps even a like for like replacement if the worst-case scenario happens and Rice leaves the club.
