It was quite the return for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, who certainly had a day to remember on Saturday as a dominant first-half performance saw Villa beat Derby County 4-0 in the Championship.

Not only was it Grealish’s first match back in the team since middle December after suffering a shin problem, but manager Dean Smith also handed the 23-year-old the captain’s armband for the encounter with Frank Lampard’s men.

And, it was as if Grealish – now valued at £18m by Transfermarkt – was never out injured, producing a clinical display in the centre of pitch that saw him pin excellent deliveries to the likes of Tammy Abraham, while he scored an absolute rocket of a goal just before half-time, hitting a Glenn Whelan corner on the volley from just outside of the box, which flew into the top-left corner of the Derby goal.

The Rams went into the clash at Villa Park on the back of a couple of poor results but definitely would have fancied themselves against a Villa team, who also weren’t in the best of forms heading into the match.

Grealish’s presence certainly brought a fresh sense of calmness to the Villa team that hasn’t been visible for a number of matches now. It was also, therefore, no surprise that it was Villa’s first league win in six encounters.

Despite being solid in defence, which was probably the most pleasing thing to see from this Villa team at the moment, Grealish was his elegant and talented self in attack and it almost looked as if he had a lot of time on the ball before giving good passes and long-balls.

The victory means Villa are now only six points of a playoff spot but it became quite evident from Saturday’s performance that they will need Grealish to continue bossing the midfield as he did on Saturday if the club was to have any chance of pulling off the miracle of earning promotion to the Premier League next season.

وأردف: “بخصوص ارتباط اسم إيهاب جلال بـ بيراميدز، فما أعلمه أن ما حدث كان بينه وبين إدارة المقاصة وليس لنا علاقة به”.

واختتم: “اقترابنا من رينيه فايلر مدرب الأهلي غير صحيح، لن نتحدث مع لاعب أو مدير فني في ظل ارتباطه بعقد مع ناديه”.

يُذكر أن ملف رحيل فايلر عن الأهلي قد شهد تطورات كثيرة، وذلك بعد إصرار فايلر على استخدام بند الرحيل دون الحصول على شرط جزائي خلال الفترة ما بين الأول من أكتوبر والعاشر من الشهر ذاته.

وصل قبل قليل، الدولي الأمريكي سيرجينو ديست، الظهير الأيمن لنادي أياكس أمستردام الهولندي، لـ كتالونيا، تمهيدًا للانتقال إلى صفوف برشلونة الإسباني، خلال سوق الانتقالات الصيفية.

ديست سيكون الصفقة الخامسة لـ برشلونة، بعد كل من بيدري من لاس بالماس، ماتيوس فرنانديز من بالميراس، وميراليم بيانيتش من يوفنتوس إلى جانب الجناح البرتغالي تريناكو من براجا.

ونشرت إذاعة “ماركا” الإسبانية، فيديو عبر حسابها الرسمي بموقع التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر”، قبل قليل، من تواجد ديست في مطار برشلونة عقب وصوله من أجل الخضوع للفحص الطبي والتوقيع على عقود انتقاله لـ برشلونة.

ومن المفترض أنّ يخضع ديست غدًا، الأربعاء للفحص الطبي، على أنّ يكون تقديمه لـ وسائل الإعلام، عصر الخميس.

وحاول بايرن ميونخ أكثر من مرة مع إدارة أياكس ولكن رغبة اللاعب في النهاية كانت الانتقال إلى برشلونة بعد حديثه مع المدرب رونالد كومان، وشعر الأمريكي بأهمية دوره مع العملاق الكتالوني في السنوات المقبلة.

It has come increasingly obvious in recent times that West Bromwich Albion’s preferred 4-3-3 system isn’t quite as effective as it was earlier in the season, and it could be down to manager Darren Moore’s faith in one man.

Given the quality he has shown during his career and the fact that he is an England international – his last appearance for the Three Lions came against Brazil towards the end of 2017 – it is no surprise that Jake Livermore has been a regular starter for the Championship outfit this term, making 32 league appearances.

Moore will probably feel there is something of an obligation to start the 29-year-old regularly even when he isn’t performing that well given his stature, and the competition for places in that area will give him a selection dilemma on a weekly basis.

With the experienced trio of James Morrison, Gareth Barry and Chris Brunt, and highly-rated youngsters Rekeem Harper and Sam Field, all able to play there, it is no wonder that the 44-year-old boss has gone with a formation incorporating three central midfielders.

Time for change

Baggies fans have questioned the decision not to switch things up more often with Dwight Gayle usually asked to play out wide rather than through the middle, and in reality the only thing stopping Moore switching back to the system that served him so well at the end of the Premier League season in 2018 is his continued loyalty to Livermore.

Right now based on form, it should be Barry and Harper who are the first two names on the team-sheet as the former Tottenham Hotspur man continues to flatter to deceive with his displays.

With the option to play Gayle alongside Jay Rodriguez and with the added signings of wingers Jacob Murphy and Jefferson Montero in January, as well as the return of Matt Phillips from injury, Moore has few excuses not to switch to a 4-4-2 now.

هناك رغبة كبيرة من طرف مدرب أتلتيكو مدريد، دييجو سيميوني، في ضم كافاني يقابلها نفس الرغبة الشديدة من طرف المهاجم للانتقال إلى النادي الإسباني وهو أمر ليس بجديد، حيث سبق واقترب اللاعب من الانضمام إلى كتيبة المدرب الأرجنتيني في يناير الماضي.

كان كافاني يتقاضى في باريس سان جيرمان راتبا سنويا قيمته 10 ملايين يورو، وهو ما كان يبحث للحصول عليه في ناديه الجديد، لكنه وافق مؤخرًا على تقليل هذا المبلغ لمحاولة إتمام الصفقة مع أتلتيكو مدريد.

ما قد يسهل الصفقة أكثر هو رحيل دييجو كوستا، عن أتلتيكو مدريد مع وجود اهتمام من طرف باريس سان جيرمان حتى يستطيع النادي الإسباني توفير راتبه لصالح كافاني على مدار الموسم الحالي.

الجدير بالذكر أن كافاني لديه اهتمام آخر من طرف مانشستر يونايتد، وهناك أنباء عن رغبة النادي الإنجليزي في تقديم عرض رسمي لضم اللاعب لكنهم ينتظرون موقفه مع أتلتيكو مدريد.

Barnsley hosted fellow League One promotion-chasers Sunderland at Oakwell on Tuesday. 

Despite it being a fiercely contested match, with plenty of quality and creativity on display, it ultimately ended goalless, so both sides earned a single point each. 

This result is a greater disappointment for the Tykes, who will have been desperate to capitalise upon their home advantage in order to pull away from the Black Cats in the race for automatic promotion. However, whilst Daniel Stendel’s side remain above Sunderland in the table, there is just four points between them with the Wearside outfit holding a game in hand.

Barnsley are still in the driving seat though and Stendel will know that it is vital that his squad retains its composure.

What he said

Following the 0-0 draw, as quoted by ClubCall, the German coach said: “It was a closer game than we expected.

“The goal was to win, but we are satisfied…In the last minutes we tried to win, but we could not score. A draw for both teams is okay.”

Keep calm

There is still plenty of football left to be played in this campaign, and Barnsley still have every chance of securing promotion, so long as they keep their heads.

The failure to win last night was a disappointment and a setback, but by sending this calm message out to the squad and fans, Stendel is seeking to ensure that everyone remains relaxed and focused heading into the all-important run in.

George Baldock and Kieron Freeman have battled for the right wing-back spot at Sheffield United throughout much of the 2018/19 campaign, with injuries to both players in turn benefitting the other.

It is the former that is currently getting the nod – and probably the first-choice all things considered – with the latter having not featured because of an issue since the goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month.

Chris Wilder has a big decision on his hands when the 26-year-old is available again though, which could potentially be the home clash with Bristol City at Bramall Lane on March 30 due to the upcoming international break.

That tough call may have just been made much easier despite the fact that Baldock kept his third successive clean sheet – and the Yorkshire outfit’s seventh on the bounce in England’s second tier – in a 1-0 win against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

The former MK Dons man wasn’t quite as comfortable and impressive as he has shown that he can be previously though, and was arguably lucky to stay on the pitch following a late lunge on the Whites’ Pontus Jansson – which was punished with a yellow card.

Aside from that, the 26-year-old only made 13 passes throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch, as per stats-based website WhoScored, and he was wasteful with a success percentage of 61.5%.

From an attacking point of view he did complete two dribbles and provided one cross – although it wasn’t an accurate one – while he only made one tackle and two clearances compared to four and one respectively by teammate Enda Stevens on the opposite flank.

Whether it was a rare off-day or not, Baldock needs to be performing better than he did against Marcelo Bielsa’s men if he is to be a starter for a club with automatic promotion in their hands with eight Championship fixtures this season remaining.

Wilder may have been dreading who to pick out of him and Freeman when both are fit, but his decision may have just been made a lot easier following this latest wobble.

Being loaned out as a youngster has become a rite of passage for Premier League players who are at the start of their careers.

With first-team football at the biggest of clubs hard to come by for the majority of teenage talents, they can find themselves being sent out to varying levels of England’s footballing pyramid depending on their abilities.

Whereas some players thrive in their new, albeit temporary surroundings, others can see their career dissipate due to a scarring spell away from their parents clubs if they let it affect them.

Unfortunately in the case of Timothy Fosu-Mensah, the latter could be applicable to his situation since joining Fulham on loan from Manchester United last summer.

The Dutch defender has experienced a torrid time at Craven Cottage this season and has been part of an outfit that has conceded a remarkable total of 70 goals in just 31 league games. His development as a player will have surely been hampered by the fact that he has played under three different managers who have all tried to implement different systems and formations.

Yet despite the fact that his footballing CV is about to include an ugly relegation from the Premier League with the Cottagers, Fosu-Mensah should not let it define him as a player as the problems he has experienced this season are relatively abnormal compared to a usual season.

The United academy graduate’s performances for Crystal Palace during the 2017/18 campaign outlined a great deal of promise for the 21-year-old and there is no reason why he cannot reach these levels again either with the Red Devils or elsewhere.

If there is one player that Fosu-Mensah could take inspiration from in the Premier League it would have to be Harry Kane. Before becoming arguably one of the world’s best strikers, the England forward experienced several difficult loan spells at the likes of Leyton Orient, Leicester City and Millwall. Yet through years of hard-work and dedication, Kane finally began to make his mark for Tottenham Hotspur and has developed into an exceptional marksman.

A single-disastrous campaign therefore for the Netherlands international should not shape what still could be a highly successful career for the defender.

صحيفة “لا جازيتا ديلو سبورت” الإيطالية، أكدت أن الثنائي لاعب الوسط البلجيكي راجا ناينجولان وصانع الألعاب روبيرتو جاليارديني، قد أثبتت إصابتهم لـ كورونا.

وقالت الصحيفة إنه رغم عدم تأكيد إنتر ميلان الاختبارات الإيجابية في بيان رسمي حتى الآن، لكن الصحيفة تدرك أنّ تحاليل الثنائي إيجابية.

وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن غياب الثنائي يثير قلق المدرب أنطونيو كونتي، الذي يبدو أنه سيضطر لإجراء العديد من التغييرات الدفاعية ضد ميلان في الديربي يوم 18 أكتوبر.
