HYS: Would Ramsey be a regular starter at Liverpool?

One area of the field where Liverpool have more than enough bodies is midfield.

James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Adam Lallana are among the options available, not to mention Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will be part of the conversation next season when he returns to fitness.

However, so far in the current campaign Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled for creativity in the middle third.

The front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane masked over Philippe Coutinho’s absence last season.

The trio are yet to find their stride collectively, though, which means that the gap where the Brazilian’s spark used to be is looking empty.

Aaron Ramsey is not the same type of player as Coutinho, but he has attributes that could help in an attacking sense.

According to the London Evening Standard, the midfielder, who has scored one goal and created three assists this season, is expected to be a free agent next summer as his current club Arsenal have no plans to offer him a new contract.

Perhaps signing Ramsey on a free would be an offer too good to turn down, but would he get in Liverpool’s current team?

Revealed: 60% of Leeds fans want Marcelo Bielsa to sign Adam Lewis on loan

[ad_pod ]

According to a recent Football FanCast poll, the majority of Leeds fans would back a January loan move for Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis in order to provide cover for Marcelo Bielsa’s injury-hit defence.

With full-back Luke Ayling ruled out for two months with a knee injury, Stuart Dallas was asked to fill the right wing-back role in the win over Wigan on Sunday, and although the Northern Irishman certainly stepped up to the plate this clearly showed the lack of depth in the Leeds squad.

However, although Bielsa likes to work with a small group it would seem that Leeds fans are keen to have more cover in their squad, and 60 per cent said they should move for Liverpool’s young prospect Lewis, whose presence in the squad would surely push Barry Douglas to be even better.

Goal recently reported that Liverpool’s current back-up at left-back Alberto Moreno would not be given a new contract, allowing him to leave on a free-transfer in the summer of 2019. The Spaniard lost his place to Andrew Robertson last season and in truth has struggled since arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2014.

The report also claimed that Jurgen Klopp has been impressed by 18-year-old Lewis in training, and that he will become the understudy to Robertson next season, so a move now to gain some first-team action would surely benefit all parties.

Revealed: 85% of Rangers fans want Gerrard to target Nick Powell in January

[ad_pod ]

The majority of Rangers fans that answered our recent poll want boss Steven Gerrard to battle German side RB Leipzig and Glasgow rivals Celtic for the signing of Wigan midfielder Nick Powell.

According to TEAMtalk, those two clubs are ahead of Premier League duo Brighton and Burnley in the race for Powell as they can sign the 24-year-old on a pre-contract agreement in January with a view to him joining on a free transfer once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Clearly though Rangers fans are keen for Gerrard to get involved in the race for the attacking midfielder, who can also play up front, with 85 per cent of those who voted in our poll saying that they would back a move.

The former Manchester United midfielder has netted four goals and provided five assists in 16 games for Wigan so far during this campaign and would surely add some necessary quality to Gerrard’s ranks.

Revealed: Majority of Everton fans not expecting Lookman to leave

In the summer it was widely reported that Ademola Lookman could leave Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at RB Leipzig, where he made 11 Bundesliga appearances, scoring five goals and registering four assists.

Despite all the transfer speculation, Lookman stayed at Goodison Park, but he is struggling for game time.

Publicly, manager Marco Silva insisted that the winger was an important member of the team but he had featured in only seven matches in all competitions.

With Theo Walcott failing to impress of late, some Everton fans have called on Silva to bring Lookman into the team.

If he continues to be a squad player rather than a first-team regular, the winger may consider his options when the transfer window reopens in January.

Check out the video below to see how Brazil fans reacted to being asked how Cristiano Ronaldo would peform for them in a hilarious prank by Playmaker FC…

We asked you if Lookman will still be wearing the blue of Everton come February, and the majority of fans believe that he will be.

Arsenal look like they’ll be set for exciting times under Emery

After a terrible year which saw The Gunners not only miss out on Champions League football yet again but also lose to Atletico Madrid in the semi-final of the Europa League, Arsene Wenger’s tenure at the club finally came to an end.

Under new man Unai Emery, Arsenal still need to improve but in terms of pressing and their attacking play, The Gunners already look better than the side that put in horrific performance after horrific performance last season.

In Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal have two of the best forwards in the league and two that at their best can trouble any side in the league. Indeed the goalscoring exploits of the two strikers has been key in Arsenal’s surprising form which has seen them go 16-games unbeaten run.

Now 12 games into the league Arsenal must continue that form as they go in into the Christmas period.

According to Sky Sports commentator, Martin Tyler, Unai Emery’s goals per game record is the highest of any manager and although he’s only managed 12 games, it’s still a stat that should excite the Arsenal fans going forward.

The Breakdown

Yes, the figure should be taken with a pinch of salt but it’s plain to see that Arsenal are beginning to return to playing the football the fans used to see.

A few additions still need to be made but after just one transfer window, Emery has done a superb job. It will be tough to break into the top four but there’s no doubt that Arsenal could pip Spurs to the final spot.

Tottenham fans have mixed reaction to Ndombele reports

[ad_pod ]

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur have been in contact with Lyon to discuss a January move for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

Spurs did not spend during the summer transfer window, but are expected to be active at the start of 2019, with a new midfielder believed to be on the agenda.

Indeed, Mousa Dembele is currently on the sidelines with an ankle problem, and the Belgium international has also been strongly linked with a move away from the club.

Ndombele has been linked with a number of clubs over the last few months, but according to Calciomercato, Tottenham are in the driving seat.

Just 21 years of age, Ndombele spent last season on loan at Lyon from Amiens before completing a permanent move to the French giants.

Playmaker FC’s Theo Ogden was at Wembley to witness Spurs’ dramatic second half comeback against PSV. Watch the drama unfold in the video below…

This term, the France international has scored twice in 17 appearances in all competitions for Lyon.

The Tottenham fans have been on social media reacting to the transfer report, and it would be fair to say that there are some mixed views:

Arsenal’s ruthless decision on Danny Welbeck proves that they’re finally improving

Danny Welbeck’s injury came at a bad time for him. Not only had he begun to find a bit of form for Arsenal, but it also left him with an uncertain future at the club. His contract, after all, expires at the end of the season, and he was far away from having deserved a new one in the lead-up to his injury.

Now, though, it’s looking like he may not get a chance to prove himself – as the Times is reporting that Arsenal will not renew his deal, despite his injury.

This is obviously a pretty ruthless decision from the Gunners, but make no mistake, it’s one that proves that Unai Emery, the Arsenal brass and Arsenal as a team are finally on the up.

Tough decisions can make or break a team, but in this case, it’s a deal that makes pretty obvious sense. In the past, Welbeck may have been given a new deal out of courtesy, and though that would be a brilliant gesture, it’s hardly a good thing for Arsenal. He’s not one of their best players, nor have they missed him since he got injured, and so for a team that has become increasingly hesitant to spend money, keeping the Englishman on what are likely sizeable wages makes sense.

Furthermore, the Times makes a point of suggesting that his departure could allow a route into the team for young players like Reiss Nelson, and this is another sign that Arsenal are moving forward. Instead of keeping hold of an overpaid squad player, the Gunners are instead looking to the future and perhaps rewarding a young player for a brilliant season on-loan in Germany. Emery is approaching his squad and utilising a meritocracy, and that’s exactly how you build a good team.

Arsenal are finally doing everything right, both on and off the field, and that bodes so well for the future of the club.

Middlesbrough fans react to Tony Pulis’ pre-Blackburn quotes

[ad_pod ]

Middlesbrough will attempt to return to winning ways in the Championship when they welcome Blackburn Rovers to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Boro suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa last weekend, and are without a league success since November 24.

Boro’s attacking troubles were once again on display against Villa, and it does seem incredible that the team have only managed 22 goals in their 20 Championship matches this season.

Playmaker FC’s Matchday with Max caught up with Jamaica’s women’s team. See what happened when he met the history makers in the video below…

Luckily, Boro have the best defensive record at this stage, but a lack of goals might well cost them when it comes to earning promotion to the Premier League.

Head coach Tony Pulis has been speaking ahead of the clash with Blackburn, and the 60-year-old is hopeful that the team have managed to sort a few things out.

It remains to be seen whether Boro can return to winning ways on Saturday, but the club’s supporters want to see more of an attacking approach.

Revealed: 88% of Tottenham fans insist Foyth is good enough

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth was not exactly fantastic in the North London derby against Arsenal earlier this month.

Foyth was given the nod over Toby Alderweireld to start alongside Jan Vertonghen against the Gunners, but struggled in his team’s 4-2 defeat.

The 2017 arrival from Estudiantes has shown his potential this season, however, and at the age of 20, certainly has time on his side.

It would have been easy for the Tottenham fans to dismiss Foyth following his struggles against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, but that has not been the case.

Indeed, the Tottenham supporters were recently asked whether Foyth was actually good enough for the club, and a huge 88% of those polled insisted that he is.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Foyth if Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino leaves for Manchester United this summer, that is for sure.

The results of the poll can be seen below:

Liverpool must make a move for Roma wonderkid Nicolo Zaniolo

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool must make a move for a player who has been likened to their club-legend Steven Gerrard in Roma playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo, who is making headlines with the Italians for all the right reasons.

What’s the word, then?

Zaniolo, formerly of Inter, was used as a makeweight in the deal which saw Belgian midfielder Radja Nianggolan move to the San Siro from Roma – a foolish move by the side from Milan.

Since arriving in the Italian capital, hopes have been high for the teenager who made his professional debut in this season’s Champions League against Real Madrid.

For some added context on just how highly rated the 19-year-old is, Roberto Mancini called the midfielder into the Italy squad back in September before he had even made his debut in the senior game.

Zaniolo has been described as a ‘trequartista’, someone who enjoys playing in the hole just behind the striker and looking to make things happen. Due to his upper-body strength, explosive bursts from a standing start and exquisite technique, however, he is equally adept just further back in central midfield.

Why do Liverpool need him?

Any player described as ‘the next Steven Gerrard’ should make Liverpool sit up and take notice, and when there is substance behind those words in a player such as Zaniolo, the Reds should definitely be keeping tabs on him.

The Merseysiders are currently overstocked in midfield in all honesty. Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri are all vying to start in Jurgen Klopp’s team, so there may be no immediate place for the Italian, but it would be negligent of a club like Liverpool to rest on their laurels and let a player like Zaniolo slip away.

Klopp should prioritise a move for the player and loan him back to the Serie A side; as long as they snap him up before anyone else does, the Reds may have one of the next generation’s best players.
